How to get certain portions of sounds from a song

Hello everyone. I have a question I Was wondering could be answered. I was wondering how to get a certain drum, or rift from a song that is playing. For example, I want to get a certain snare sound from A Tribe Called Quest song but whenever the snare hits so does the hi-hat, kick, and etc, etc. How do i isolate just the snare sound?

eq and filters.
then maybe use other sounds over the top to help hide any unwanted sounds that couldn't be eqed out.

How do you EQ?

with a graphic equalizer or a mixer with tone controls knobs (hi mid bass for example)

Which one do you suggest for purchase? Sorry.

What you using a 500? I never touched one of those but if it's anything like the 1K then there is all kinds of functions built within the machine itself. A mixer, EQ controls, freq controls, filter funtion, the list goes on and on... Check the manual, I'm sure it will tell you all about each of these things and more. Also, are you trimming the sample all the way down to that single snare? Or extracting it the best you can first?

I am using a 1000, or will be in a few days. I want to try to get that exact snare hit sound so i can arrange it in the sequence as desired.

well like I was saying (assuming that you have not already done this) trim the sample all the way down to that single snare then when you filter it or change the sound however you gonna do to get just what you want, it will be alot easier. Also, worst come to worst.. listen to the track all the way thru, chances are that same snare is used throughout the entire track. Chances also are that that snare may be isolated later (or earlier) in the song already. If this is the case and the snare is all you want.. just smaple that part.

K thanks man. Is there a certain filter or effect that will make the results better for isolating kicks or snares or hi-hats?

it is called "isolator". don't remember if ableton live got one... maybe there is something similar
