I put this in the 'Getting Started' section, but no joy - If anyone can help, that's be amazing.

Using an MPC1k with JJos1 4.99
Have set q-link 1 to adjust tune in real time
I have a sequence recorded and now i want to change it's pitch using the q-link - press OVERDUB + PLAY, with AFTER on (so i record over my previous attempts to get the pitch right), move the slider about, pres stop - and when I hit play again the pitch reverts back to a default.

If I do the above with AFTER off it will record the changes (i can also see them in GRID EDIT) but as the manual says, it adds to what was previously recorded

If the [AFTER] key is OFF, when you move the QLink
slider, the new Q-Link Event will be recorded
and added to the existing Q-Link Events.
If the [AFTER] key is ON, when you move the QLink
slider. The new Q-Link event will be recorded
and will erase any previous Q-Link Events.

So for something like pitch, I don't want it jumping about.
I want to be able to move the q-link to the right spot and record that value, effecting the whole loop - is this possible? Should I use a different OS/upgrade?

unfortunately, that is the way it works on all the JJ OS's. that is Akais spec, not JJ's. JJ has already stated in his FAQ that he is not going to change it because it would wreck compatibility with peoples older projects.

you have a couple options.

if you don't want the pitch to change over time, then just set your TUNE in the PROGRAM screen.

if you do want the pitch to be changing as the sequence plays back, you could set simple sweeps in the PITCH section or the LFO section of the PROGRAM screen.

OR:

if you still want to use the qlinks to get more complex pitch changes, you have to get it right in one pass. rehearse your movements while the sequence loops and then hit record when you are ready. use the AFTER key only to record over your old attempts & then turn the AFTER key off when you are playing back the sequence. as long as the AFTER key is lit, the track will not respond to any previously recorded data, only realtime input.

if you screw up, you can delete the pitch changes in STEP EDIT. a little tedious but doable.

also, it's a good idea to put each sound on it's own track, so that you have individual QLINK control over each track seperately.

experiment with the qlinks & the AFTER key and you will get an understanding of how they work.

sugoi.... I've been frusterated by the same thing. . .

I wish that you could change the TUNE from the PGM edit mode by moving the Q1, and have it stay.

It's a much faster and intuitive way to tune samples to a song.

I tried it in OS2XL and it seems to work as we would want. But you lose Q2 capabilites which is not worth it in my opinion.

I've been playing about with the free OS2XL and it really opens up the q-links from a practical PoV but, like you say, it sucks not getting 2 parameters at the same type.

I figure 1 good thing is better than 2 half-assed things...just need to work out what I'd loose/gain from going to XL, aside from a q-link - trying to decode the english on JJ's page is a ****

Thanks for that nugget
