Tokyo: Disc Union

Some of this weekend's purchases:

as I recent Tokyo transplant, I gotta get up in this topic...

I really like Disc Union, although sometimes it seems like the prices vary from location to location. There's more of them than I thought, tho- I thought they were only at the BIG stations like Shibuya and Shinjuku, but...

algorithm- I've heard about Sofmap in Akihabara before, but I can't find it- that place is so friggin' dense! Can you help me out? Also, I'm in the market for some Technics- you know a good spot to snag those on the cheap?

this post makes me feel good- its nice to know there are other beat heads in the neighborhood (who can speak English )

I got my Technics at Rock Inn because I have a friend that works there and I buy all my equipment through him. You can get 1200MK5's for like 45000JPY a piece and 1200MK5G's for like 65000 a piece.

If you go to the smaller cities on the Odakyu line or Yokohama you will find cheaper deals too. Disk Union is almost everywhere there is a hub or connecting stations. I check out Yokohama sometimes too. Equipment B`z Music, Musicland Keys and Ishibashi has USED Gear and Hard Off got a gang of old but mint equipment on the cheap too got an old 1200 for 10,000 yen just for sampling he,he. Sofmap got the 100 yen joints too.

Tokyo is great, and you'll always come up on shit...

But I still prefer the countryside, because there aren't too many diggers, and you find shit for 100 yen.

Haven't exactly had the funds to leave Tokyo for digging just yet, but the time is coming... I've never seen a Hard Off- are there any in Tokyo at all?

I think there is one in Shinjuku or Akihabara as it is mainly a Used goods store. Check the internet for locations as they are chain stores.

I came over about 8 years ago. I thought I was only going to be here for 1 year, and just did it for the experience of living overseas and travelling. Anyway, I ended up getting into learning the language and pursued that. I eventually became a translator about 4 years ago after a few years of hell memorizing countless kanji and taking Japanese proficiency tests. Also, I married a Japanese woman so that's another reason I'm over here.

Japan is pretty expensive for what you get, but if you're outside of Tokyo rent isn't too bad if you can get used to small places. Food is expensive, but the pay is pretty good so I find I can save a lot more over here than I can back home (US).

Hardoff. Don't get me started. My good friend from Australia just completed a hard off tour of Japan. He got a map of hard offs and travelled around Japan for a week and a half just record digging and staying in capsule hotels. I'm talking to him about joining him for another tour. The ones by me suck though unless you're into Bay City Rollers and classical records.

Hard Off for used gear I mean, the record selection is terrible. Hmm almost the same for me as the time and the experience in Japan. Got to apply for resident visa this time no need for a 3 yr visa.

Haha. The famed resident visa. I just applied for the spouse visa this time around. I was on a work visa all the rest of the time. Maybe I'll try for the resident visa next time around because I hear they often just give 1 year spouse visas when you switch over. I should know here soon...

I would hate to have to backtrack my self...
