changing floppy power cord to zip 100 ?

just trying to put a zip 100 drive in the xl and when i opened it up i noticed the power cord to the floppy drive only has a black and red cord but the plug for the zip is the same as power cord on a pc power source and have black, red and yellow. question is how do i cut and hook up that new plug, has anyone done this

You will just need the black and red (+5v) wire from motherboard to the Zip drive. The yellow wire (12v) you won't really need.

I have installed the Zip drive, i seem to have power but the XL does not recognize the drive. just a few questions:

1. I only got the smaller IDE ribbon with my XL for the floppy, i tried a regular CD IDE Ribbon from a old PC and noticed it had a blocked part hole where as the Floppy rippon did not. I drilled out there part but still nothing do i need a specific ribbon ?.

2. i scored a working internal Zip 100 drive from a PC shop, is any internal Zip 100 capable with a XL.

3. Do you need to set the master/slave switches on the rear on the Zip drive ?

Regular ole pc hard drive ribbon, 40 pin, no blocked holes is what you need.

IDE/ATAPI zip drive that fits in the floppy slot, same connections as a pc hard drive, for power and ribbon will work. 40 pin ribbon, red/black power like explained above.

3. Do you need to set the master/slave switches on the rear on the Zip drive ?
Try master setting, then try slave setting, then try single setting one of them will work, it won't mess up your machine, all that will happen is just that the drive won't work if it's the wrong setting.
