Program, Sequence, Track..what do I have??

I loaded a drum kit in my 2000XL and assigned each sound to a pad. Then I tapped out a drum beat with hi hats, snares, kicks,etc, for 2 bars and it's rocking as we speak. Now I don't know where to go from here. I have the manual in front of me trying to figure out if I just created a sequence, a track or a program. I dont know how or where to save it for later use. I'm thinking I created a track to be placed within a sequence. Is that right?

pgm is the file to load for the pad assignments, seq is the arrangement of tracks. if you recorded kick, snare , hats etc on track 1 you only have a seq with one track, if you seperated them then the seq will have multiple tracks. Save the pgm and the seq to come back to it later.

So it sounds like it may be better to separate the sounds into several tracks rather than combine them in one. How you feel about that?

you've created all three - a track, a program and a sequence .
an easy way to understand it is like this:
songs are made up of sequences which are made up of tracks
Song >sequences >tracks
programs: saves your sounds and where they are programed on the MPC (banks A-D).
you got 64 tracks per sequence so its pretty obvious that its intended to make multiple tracks.

like lampdog says - separating your sounds gives you more control over the sequence.

saving : shift 3, press F2 for save menu. make a new folder (open window) or just save it in the root.
what to save: ALL (saves all sequences), ALL_PGMS (all programs and sounds)

tips:
-open window is your best friend. press it for everything. discover.
-read the manual.
