does anyone else have this problem. do i have to shitf the hole thing or might i just have switched it of or something in the setup or something??

It's probably a stale/bad connection or defective drive. The only way of finding out is to open it up and get busy.

Yep, same thing happened to me.
CD would'nt work for a year but I wasnt using it much so I just rolled with it.
Just before sending her in for a repair I opened her up to replace the drive myself (I installed it originally).
Couldn't get the drive out because one of the screws was badly worn, so I checked all the connectors and put her back together.
Problem solved.
Worth a try I'd say.
