i love my xl but.. (sample mode/midi related)

no input thru makes it nearly useless to me...

i come from a 2500 background, aquired an xl a couple years ago.. but i have two spots, my main studio/my house, and my dads house where i stay when i work nights coz it's close to work..

i have my 2500 setup with my fantomx6 and my turntables monitors + td-9 vdrums 16ch fw mixer, imac20 etc(it's a dope spot).. and my 2000xl, planet phatt, axiom25 + mbp w/logic..

i just did a session then at my dads on the xl w/planet phatt.. i can trigger midi on the xl but not with the axiom.. and i can't get any sound thru the sample input, just the headphones on the planet phatt.. strange...

so does the xl transmit midi in sample mode? it seems it doesn't, i hope i'm wrong.

the midi cables are good, but i could not get the axiom 25 to trigger at all.. it works with logic.. im stumped. i heard rumours that these type midi controllers the out doesn't work unless a proper power adapter is used(i just use usb power).

i guess the work around is to get a cheap little mixer or better yet a 4ch sound card or something..

just curious to how you guys work around the lack of input thru on the xl?

i love the sequencer, and the trim/chop (i actually like it better than my 2500) but the lack of input thru just kills it for me.. it would be the perfect midi/seq/sampler imo if it had input thru...

maybe this is a rant but, but maybe someone would hear my cry and reverse engineer a god damned new os for this beast!

i don't want to sell it coz i still like using it and it's handy as hell to have two mpc's when i hae two places i make beats.. maybe i should sell it for a 1000, it's fully maxed w/cf, so i culd probably still make a buck and cop a 1000 on ebay.com.au...

main issue was i could not get any sound into the xl from the planet phatt, output into xl's input, monitor thru xl out. didn't work in sample mode when using mpc pads. but would work if monitor headphone out of planet phatt and play pads in mpc main screen.

and would not work at all with the axiom..

so it was near impossible to sequence anything, coz i couldn't here the metronome.
so i tried to sample the planet phatt and no luck.

so it made me wonder if the xl transmits midi in sample mode?

being that it has no input thru feature, maybe it wont send midi while sampling...

therefore i would need a small mixer to have a usable workflow.

Yea your gonna need another input to monitor the Fantom (my phone was tripping previously) through. A lil mixer will do the trick. Sorry there is no hope in playing a sequence while sampling or even monitoring the sample input while a seq is playing.
Get a mixer or a 1000, 2500 or a 5000 to resolve your issues. The 2000 isn't totally compatible with the 2500 anyway.

two pairs of headphones does the trick for now.
