I've found an MPC1000 in my area on craigslist for $350. This will be my 1st MPC and I wanna give the seller a call for some questions. I don't know anything about MPC's really so what should I ask before going to look at it? Also what should I look for when if I go to check it out? Sorry for the noobness but I wanna try to get it right the 1st time. Thanks in advance.

Isn't that what this forums is for?

well: what should you ask?

1st of all, does it work?
2. why are they selling it?
3. any defects/ things missing?
4. how long have they had it?

Ask him to make a beat in front of you, add some effects to it, use the CF Card, use the hard drive also while making the beat. That will show that alot of the buttons and pads work.

How much RAM show you how much on screen.
Hard drive, show you how much space on screen.

for the mpc 1000 new style pads or old style pads.

new style pads are all on one sheet, you can pinch them on one of the corner pads and you should be able to make it poke out of the plastic case, you can easily tuck it back in- if it does this you have the new pads, which are a lot better.

Dont forget to ask which OS (operating system) is installed in the unit.

Akai's own OS, or the improved JJOS which is the preferred choice for experienced users.

Thanks for the replies. The dude already sold it though. Hopefully another pops up locally. If not I'll hit up The Guitar Center or Ebay. Do they test before they sell or have a warranty on used items at The Guitar Center??
