This is a Tutorial With A Poll (Syncing Reason & Pro Tools)

I have seen some members asking for help syncing Reason to
Pro Tools. I use Pro Tools to track my beats from Reason 3.0
(and the mpc). Here's how to set it up:

1. Open Pro Tools and create a new session.

2. Create a Stereo Aux Input Track



3. Open the mix window. On the Aux Input Track, Create an insert.
Choose multi-channel plug-in, Instrument, then click Reason (stereo)
**Rewire should be installed**



4. Now on the Aux Input Track, create a send. Click "Bus, Bus 1-2 (Stereo)".



5. A bus volume slider will appear, usually in the edit window.
On the slider, Hold Alt and click on the volume slider. This will be
the volume level to zero. **If your bus volume level is at zero,
THERE WILL BE NO SOUND.**



6. Create a new audio track in Pro Tools. (Stereo or Mono, it doesn't
matter). Now in the mix window, for the new audio track(s), be sure
to set the Audio Input Path selector to "Bus 1-2". This is matching the
send from the Aux Input Track.



7. Now your ready to record in audio from Reason. **Pro Tools is now
the master sequencer, so when you open your beat in Reason while Pro
Tools is open, then the tempo in Reason will change to whatever setting
Pro Tools has.** This is how the mix window in Pro Tools should look
when ready to record from Reason. Notice how some items are muted
in Reason. This is done to track audio separately to Pro Tools.



8. Be sure to set the recording time/measures in Pro Tools using the
Transport Bar. So if you have a 4 bar loop, set the Transport to start
at 1 and end at 5.



9. Now Pro Tools should be recording audio from Reason. Here's a
screen shot.

Yeah... he would like a walk-through to show him how to record multiple tracks at the same time, from Reason to Pro Tools. I know how to do it, but the way I write tutorials is step by step, screen shot by screen shot.

I'm sure you know the steps, but here goes.

1. Setup all devices in Reason under the "Midi In Device, Audio Out",
not through Reason's internal mixer.

2. Open PT, new session.

3. Create Instrument Track.

4. Open Reason Plug-in and Re-wire will start.

5. Open the Project in Reason and set the tempo in PT.

6.Creat Bus Send. Assign one of Reason's devices to
the Instrument Track.

7. Creat Audio Track. Input path will be the Bus send from
Instrument Track 1.

8. Make sure "Auto Input Monitoring" is on in PT. (ALT + K)

9. Set measure of recording on Transport Bar in PT.

10. Record enable the Instrument. Press Record.

11. Now the steps are recorded on the Instrument Track.
Velocity and stepscould be edited on the Instrument Track.

12. Now record enable the audio track and record.

13. Now that the audio track is recorded make sure to make the
Instrument Track inactive. This saves the cpu power/stress.

**Repeat steps 3-13 for each Reason Device to make recorded. Actually
you can setup everything first. Then record the Instrument first, all at
once. Then record enable the audio tracks and do the same.

**If you don't need/want to record the instrument tracks, you can simply skip step 11.

Damn...I just wrote the whole thing out, I'll take some screen shots and post later.

BTW cooocooo1, the link was cool, but Phil may go a little fast and is not
detailed enough for some people. I just broke it down and will include screen shots later.

is the instrument track the same as aux track? Wook how will PT capture my effects if i remove the devices from the internal mixer? i overstand but want to keep some of the effects added to the mixer. good tut, keep it coming. thx Cooo for the link.

Instead of going strait out from the instrument device (EX: nnxt), use the output from the effects device (Ex CF-101). Just take what's going into Reason's Internal Mixer and move them over to the audio out channels of the Reason Hardware Interface.

how would i intigrate my audio from the mpc into this? Lets say im using my mpc as the sequencer instead of reason using the internal drum sounds on the mpc and reason as the sound module... would this route some how fall into play when tracking into PT?

I guess you'd route the audio from your MPC into Pro Tools audio interface, and record the audio that way???
