how come the pros still using 2000xl

hi every one.

bin saving my beans gonna be getting my first mpc in the next couple of months

cant decide between the 2000xl and 2500

the obvious choice is the2500 coz the has the conectivity and storage bennefits, loading speed etc. with jj os the patched phrasing looks nifty also. and i can imagine at times a grid editor would be usefull. out of the two just due to the fact that my s3000xl is giving me a bad neck i would get the 2500 over the 1000 coz of the tilt screen alone.

but on the other hand i go on youtube and see people like aswell and jel playing live and see that they are using 2000xl. and these are guys who must of spent years refining their craft. and they have not felt the need to "change up" to a 1000 or a 2500.

can this be down to the pads. because for the live stuff they do they have found the 1000 and 2500 pads to be inferior maybe? do they not stand up to the hammering or are they less responsive or simply not as nice feeling? or maybe the pad placement to the centre instead of the right is an issue?

another pro on the 2000xl is that it can send up to 300000 midi messages in a song, i think its only 100000 with the 1000 and 2500.- this would be an issue for me as have alot of external stuff to control.
also, not sure where i read this but i think i did somewhere that the ppqn resolution is less on the 1000 and 2500, not sure though.
these two issues seem really strange for later models of an iconic machine thats territory was as a MIDI production center after all. to reduce the upper limit of midi messages and reduce the ppqn res wich is important for organic natural sounding sequences, just seems a wierd thing to do.

i also think the 2000xl is a beautifull looking machine and it can obviously stand the test of time(putting liney screens to one side)
aesthetics is a terrible reason to buy one peice of hardware over another tho... hmm

i wish i could try them both out but all the shops round here only stock mpd controllers so no mpc floor models..nada

i know this subject has been done to death in other threads but if any one could shed any light on Why the pros are still using 2000xl id really appreciate hearing opinions.

so if you have the option to use both but stick wit the 2kxl give us your 2c

I've got a 2000XL but would like to mess with a 2500 without and with the JJ OS just to see what all the hype is about.
But I'd never sell my 2000XL. It's like a part of my family.

you just brought another question to mind- wats the deal with the jjos manual does it have its own one or is it just amendements to the standard akai book.

The JJ os and Akai os are two different worlds altogether. The manual for JJ is found online. A 1k or 2500 with the JJ os gives you some pretty dope capabilities

I have to agree, and also the 2000xl is tough as nails... which is great for touring and what not.

Plus many of them learned how to use it from someone else so they can't just go jump on a new challenge just because something new came out.

Premier once said in an interview he still likes to use his 'outdated' mpc60 mkII/ s950 combination, eventhough Akai sent him a brand new mpc2500.
Just because the old method still works for him and because he has no time to learn and master a new machine.

never change a running system. Why buying some new shit with new features when you can expand your skillz on the thing you already own. Focus on the music and YOUR weapon of choice and dont get mad by runnin around and buying this and that and learn how they work.

whatya mean? IMO, the 2000xl is the best MPC ive ever used, including a 1000 and 2500, with jjos. But thats me, the lack of features make it alot more intricate. But the dded features of jjos do speed things up alot. The real question, is what kind of music do you wanna do? If your gonna be using alot of keys, go 2500 simply for direct record, and midi sync while recording. But if ur gona be usin mainly samples, 2000xl will save you $$$ and headaches.

i had a 2500 once, but i came back to the XL...

i like the build quality of the XL better
i prefer the sound of the xl
i prefer the datawheel on the XL
i prefer the groove of the XL

i dont need and all in one machine so i am happy with what my xl can do...
