hey all, does anybody know if it is possible in any of the existing JJOS if we are able to continuously record audio into the mpc?
the reason is that i am trying to sort out a live setup which consists of 2 * turntables , 1 * MPC 2000xl, 1 * MPC 1000, 1 * microkorg.
What I am aiming to do is use the MPC 2000xl for drums as a standalone then have the microkorg and turntables running into the MPC 1000 and use this as a loopstation for live track creation only problem is when i set it up and switch to audio mode it will only record for the set number of bars and stop recording, if i was able to record audio in and switch through tracks as you can in drum and midi mode it would be perfect. I am using JJOS2. If anyone can assist with any info to make this happen it would be great if possible.

What you want to do seems difficult to achieve. In the early days of JJ OS, I think (if i remember well) that audio tracks were looping but specifications have been changed now.

Best solution might be to give up (or get an old os1 but which one? :( )

So i did a little search on the JJ website http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/oldbug.htm

If you think that downgrading to an old os could be worth trying,
You'd probably need to get a older version than new os 4.50

----------------------------------------
New & Change: New OS Ver4.50 23-Mar-2007
----------------------------------------

Change:
1. [AUDIO TRACK RECORDING]
  Processing of bar end.
Sequence LOOP ON : Recording is stopped by END of a sequence.
Sequence LOOP OFF: BAR is extended automatically and recording is continued.

OVER DUB + PLAY or START <=== Abolition.

ok, well just checked it out and here is the verdict.

1. when loop is set to on the recording finishes at end of bar count
2. when loop is set to off you are able to continue recording for an extended period which is good if you want to go back in and chop the pieces you require unfortunately in this mode as soon as your sound input ends there is no sound ( where i would like the original looped sound so i can layer sounds on the fly to recreate original songs on the go )
3. this was tested in JJOS1 and JJOS2 unless i have missed something i dont think it will be possible to layer on the fly with original sounds.

any suggestions?

Honestly with theway the 1k processor bogs down you might have to look for another solution.
I know that when the 1k starts to slow down it's real annoying since it goes from being slow to change screens to no being able to change screens at all.
Doesn't crash or freeze just can't change functions.

May be time to add that laptop to your live rig.

yeh i dont really want to put the laptop in there i personally prefer the full hardware setup to use and also as a visual. I dont like laptop use as it gives the impression of tracks being pre recorded, just a personal preference not to take that path. I see this feature for the MPC being a great addition to the JJOS if there is no way of doing it as it will take the MPC into a whole new live realm.

i agree with mikolo, you should invest in an loop pedal (there are many different ones to choose from at various price ranges) or rack mount loop device, imo two of the best are the Echoplex Digital Pro and the Electrix Repeater unfortunately these devices are discontinued. However, ive seen quite a few going on ebay for sale. Keep in mind that these things are not cheap ( like most hardware, software is always the cheaper alternative ) but for what you seem to want to do, these boxes will be invaluable to you in a live setting.

here you go: found this in the tips and trick sticky a while back.

"If you want to loop 2 bars and record continuosly, Set the sequence length to 3 bars. Switch loop from "End" to "2". For some reason, this will trick the audio track into recording until you stop the mpc and the 2 bar sequence will loop continuously."

yeh already had found that you can do it in JJOS2 also but unfortunately you still cannot layer which is what i am after as the machine needs to be stopped to layer in audio mode so you can switch tracks.
