Yeah, I haven't either. But after finding out that, although the rack samplers lacked the pads and sequencer, they were essentially the same machines internally to a certain degree.
Whatever expansion boards worked for the Z series, works with the 4k as well.

If you don't have them take a look at the S5000/6000 manual and the Z4/8 and you'll be surprised which one works like and has screens to match the 4k more closely.

They sound the same since they are the same unit. Same effects board, DA/AD convertors, mother board, other than being a rack mount sampler, it is the same as a 4K. Minus the sequencer.

As far as the sampling engines and file structure are concerned, they're identical. The Z8 also has q-link controls like the 4k. I use both regularly. Programs created on the 4k are interchangeable with the Z series.
