If you're working on a budget, I would say just use your regular home stereo system ( usually those speakers are good enough), because most powered monitors that I've auditioned really don't have enough low end except the mackie 824 ($1400 for the pair ), event ASP8 ( $1200 for the pair ), ect.
I have a friend that uses regular home speakers and his mixers were always good (because he could hear all the low end), and my mixes were always bass heavy because I could not hear all the low end. I have a pair of roland ds-90 monitors, and I had to buy a seperate sub woofer just to compensate for the low end problem.
If you absolutely need powered studio monitors either the mackie 824, or the event ASP 8 will work fine for you.
