on which thing?

Akai's midi controllers.

I dont know how they managed that, I could understand if we were comparing say... m-audio's pads to akai's mpc pads... but it's the same company and they weren't able to make em the same. That must have taken some effort.

Best bet, perhaps not... but probably one of the better options for the time being. NI has a way of obsoleting their hardware with strangely neglected features that are suddenly done properly on the new hardware.

For Akai, the problem will be how much control the software developers and hardware developers will both be willing to give up to compromise and bring us a good controller. I'm not certain that Akai is in the best position for this right now since they really are more of a hardware company and leave the software to everyone else.

The reason you see NI putting out the Maschine is because they've bridge some of the gap between their software and hardware. They can do these kinds of tightly integrated projects now since they control both sides. To see Akai drop something like this might not be in their business plan since it could be seen as a slap in the face of all the software companies that they are currently partnered with.

Who knows though... anything could happen. We've already seen Akai writing software for the iPhone and they have a hardware controller there.

to stay in bizness they gone have to start making software products.I mean they got plenty of blueprints from reason to beat thang.half the job is done already with the controllers, just come with anything that can sequence like the mp and perhaps sample.they can get a college kid to do that.add some dope graphics, and let it intergrate with any mp that has usb, so we can sequence on screen, plus the ability to use vst's and they the champ again.

had this for almost a year now, just recently started using it with their software...man I been coming up with some funky drums on that thing using their preset sounds

OK guys just read this thread, and I must comment from an experienced point of view...
I have had the MASCHINE for about 2 years now(wanna make a lil beat fast get one...but!)....they had the first OS ship with the unit...then came with version 2 update...the second version was VERY COOL! the sample game is impeccable and easy on this thing. but! which is a big BUT to me....It has "LATENCY" BECAUSE IT'S A COMPUTER BASED SOFTWARE...50ms OR SO Which can be a nightmare for perfect timing on a beat/recording into your DAW/cubase ETC....then you have your external MIDI components that will send data to the maschine software....so when you send that midi from your external keyboard there is also a latency. You can make it work but it will take more fous than you want to give...I HAD ENOUGH...because I want to make PROFESSIONAL STYLE BEATS...MASCHINE IS OK..BUT JUST NOT ON THAT LEVEL TO ME...because I know what the MPC sounds like and SYNCs like...besides IM A HOW DOES IT SOUND? KIND OF GUY...

So after my trials with maschine(which I still like and use on airplane flights only) I said screw it I know there are some bugs with the MPC5000 but i didn't want to believe it...because my creative juices are flowing I'm pretty much tired of the hip hop thats coming out so...I went out and bought the MPC5000...whew...the errors started popping up..drove me crazy..im like I know I just didn't spend like 1600 for nothing dang...I was serious going to take the MPC 5000 back to GC...then I created a beat that hit so hard and the timing of my external devices were perfectly in SYNC with the rest of the beat...WOW absolutely no Latency what a concept? ...I can't let it go now...

So I'm sticking it out with my 5000 at the moment because the FACT is AIN'T NOTHIN LIKE AN MPC HOMIE...THE VELOCITY OF THE KICKS.CLAPS.BASS etc. CANNOT be matched you will have to do some extensive tweaking to a software based kick/clap to get to "RECORD/PLAYBACK" like the MPC does...So just like OBAMA i'm still ridin with akai evethough I don't like what there doing to the consumer...Im really hoping for a new OS :( .... WE ARE IN A SOFTWARE(weird sound quality) vs ANALOG(pristine sound) WAR...because thats what makes money for the company selling controllers and helps there buddy system w/abelton etc....sucks for the consumer for sure.

Why you think when just blaze/Swizz beats/DRE tracks come on they almost bust out the speaker? cause it's analog equipment they use playa..and of course mixing and mastering..

Why you think most new music sounds so CORNY from most everybody else?...cause it came out of somebody's computer(if you like that techno crap).....it's tough to make crap sound great unless you got the tools and the time... to me has a lot to do with the company's like NI and now AKAI pushing these plastic products...this is why reason had to create RECORD which is based off the ANALOG SSL channels..

I'd like maximum feedback from this statement, please don't reply in a girly man fashion!
Thanks for your time!

bigberg3k wrote:It has "LATENCY" !

no latency issues here, you sure it's not your computer or audio/midi interface ? there is no data being sent from actual maschine hardware to the computer besides midi code that uses very little bandwidth. everything is being done within the computer....

you sure you got a mpc5000 and not 60, 3000 or 4000 ? cuz that dont sound like 5000 at all

remember that samplers job is to be as transparent as possible. what you put in is what comes out...im having hard time beliving that whatever you sample into the 5000 comes out slappin' like that

Im runnin mackie onyx 400f...256 sample rate...16bits...with a dell quad core 2.7ghz prcessor with 4 gigs of ram...kosher!

Are you recording midi into your maschine...from an external keyboard?
do you think the maschine sounds better than an MPC?
By bigberg3k Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:58 pm
oh yea im slappin harder than my maschine...naturally out the mpc..5000 HOMIE....I can make the mashine do wonderful things...but I can hear the digital fuzz coming off the maschines kicks...I'm running new mackie MR8 speakers boss...what you runnin?

my experience is like............wait for it..............hardware is like the ghetto and maschine ect is like the area where the yuppies!! live..no offence(lvingdead) just describing my experience with sound.maschine is lovely and clean.until you fook it up of course.bbbbuuuutttt i was using fruityloops the other day and it was rockin, ssoooooo.but yeah a very different experience.the mpc 5000 is very quick to sequence with, but slow to set up.loading samples ect.i would give maschine another go tho but certainly not to replace hardware.i like some crispy grimey sound....mpc pads are very good..its all good of course, except latency or bugs ect if there is any....blah,blah...
By bigberg3k Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:47 pm
Interesting analogy dryad :| ....I prefer a lil both personally ghetto and yuppish...this is why I bought both joints. and oh yea..
LvngDead wrote:you cant layer drums from the maschine controller

you cant chromatically pitch a pad from the maschine controller.

That function does the Mashine dirty in that aspect.

Also the SWING of the MPC ..which many try to imitate but never duplicate.

I mean NI just needs to get with AKAI and make an MPC tighly intergrated with DAWs.

I can do the consulting on that deal by the way!

I'm done complaining for now...

You do realize that the MPC is digital equipment.
