Just bought brand new 3000LE and got a few questions...

just got a 3000LE. mint. only problem it has a floppy drive installed and the old software.
im used to using my old 2000xl that had an card read installed.

as for my questions....
1.How do i upgrade my mpc to 3.50? after i dl it how do i install it in my mpc???
2.Why would anyone want to use floppys? i mean 1.44 mb thats nothing. I would be better off installing an Card reader rather than a zip am i correct. What is a good card reader for me to install/purchase? i saw the ones on scsiforsamplers.com already and was thinking about those.
3. i saw someone using that mpc editor and it lookd pretty cool. Will that work on a Mac or just with windows?

any info/advice would be great. like i said im used to my old 2000xl ive never used floppys or zips at all. i do however own a 100mb zip scsi and a usb zip for transferring my drum sounds from my mac to the zip discs. i just have never used them. i always used the cf cards because it was easy to save to them. then pop em out throw em in a cf card ready and drag and drop and backup all my .pgm and.snd and saved files onto my computer in a flash of a second. i had a few cf cards that froze before and i lost countless amounts of material that left me heartbroken. so ive learned their no saving too much. and to always back up and store them onto my computer and a external harddrive after im done. because its an awful feeling loosing months worth or work.

2. Sometimes, money can make someone keep the floppy, just a budget question. The Card Reader from JD@scsi4samplers are ready to use, better than search on Ebay and not be sure to find one working for your MP.
3. For the MPC Editor, i only know the PC version, but i think there's a similar program for Mac. Someone will sure answer you for this point.

Not trying to be mean, but you should a thought about floppy/ zip stuff before you bought the 3000LE. No one WANTS to use floppys, its just the storage that came stock on these units. 3.50 is a OS Chip install, so you have to open your MPC and switch them out. It's worth it though. In any event, It amazes me that you bought a 3000LE without researching stuff like this. Sh!t if Im dishing out for a mint peice of dope gear, Im reading up on it.

Second that, I mean come on, how hard is it. Loads of info about that machine is out there, would had taken you maximum a couple of minutes to resarch that before buying..

yeah well i actually came across this 3000LE randomly. I had listed a keyboard of mine on craigslist for sale and when i went over the persons house to sell him my keyboard he had it sittin in a box. Ive always thought about getting one but when i saw it i asked him what the deal was. He said he bought it brand new like years back and had two of them. anyways to make my point i ended up getting the unit for $400 and i traded my asr-10 too which i paid $300 for a year ago off craigslist. So $700 for a mint condition 3000le thats been sitting in a box i would of been an idiot not to jump all over that. i have researched a little here and their but it seems like a have a lot more too do.

What's up with people buying gear they know nothing about? I wish I had money like that to blow.

Wait you had an ASR-10 but said you never used a floppy or zip drive before. What were you using w/ that? Also, what happened to ur 2000XL?

yeah the asr i bought had a zip drive installed in it instead of a floppy. i still got my 2000xl i actually let my little brother borrow it since i got the 3000le. he's going to college up in boston and living in the dorm's so it keeps him occupied. he's never used one before but he used to watch me and picked up a few things from watching. i wouldnt even sell the 2000xl now that i got the 3000. id keep it anyways. its always nice to have a backup.

damn what a steal 700$ for a mint LE... and who cares if he didn't know all this in the beginning what happens if he missed out on that opportunity all that information is still on the internet and does take 2 seconds to research imo smart move gl with your mpc

I'm amazed that he let you into his house, to say nothing of exposing you to all his gear. Here in LA, that's asking for an unscheduled visit. Anyway, he's the real fool for not researching the value of his extra 3K. His loss is your gain.

Thanks to kejlabal for the mention of our card readers and to my old friend deegood for the assist. Me and him went through some fun times with his MPC3000 and the Spyrus card reader but that was way back. Nowdays our CF-CARD drives go in like butter and work great right off the bat. And they work with any os, Akai or Vailixi.

Please hit me up if you decide a card reader is the way you want to go and I'll get you fixed up. Like the man said, MPC3000 + card reader = badazz sampler!
