yes, i think this wont save as Parameters

saving an Instrument as a good way to do this

actually you point me on somethign there... my setup is, mpc60 is main sequencer and ASR10/SE1/Logic soundmodules to it.
i can play Logic VSTIs on the ASR keys but i automatically trigger all Vstis with all sequences...
and i am totaly scratching my head wound why...

maybe i have to set up 8 Instruments in the ASR in order to seperate them... i dont understand why that would be the case but its maybe the key, i ll try later

but is that how you do it mark?

Yes, as I can remember, I think it has to be set to transmit/recieve on "instrument" channel instead of base channel under EDIT-SYSTEM-MIDI.

I almost forgot what it looked like since I haven't used it in a while. 8)

Dab - Id agree 100 %. Ion, yes mate it sounds like your midi instruments are combined which is not what you want.

You need 8 midi instruments all set up with each transmitting on a different channel.

And remember that EDIT - INSTRUMENT - MIDI Status need to be correct
EXT/MIDI - just out your midi module (whatever it may be).
LOCAL - just ASR-10
BOTH - both the ASR-10 and MIDI module.

Also remember EDIT - SYSTEM - TRANSMIT ON = INST CHAN
And on each instrument - make sure the MIDI OUT CHANNEL parameter is unique on each one. Good rule of thumb is MIDI OUT CHANNEL on 1 is 1, on 2 is 2 etc...

so once again, just to make sure (i didnt have time to try yet)

we are speaking about that i want to be able to record 8 different Logic VSTI tracks not ASR 10 tracks... but in order not to multi trigger several tracks with the seqeunces i record (playing the ASR keys) i need to make and select an ASR track for each VSTI right?

man i am so glad i found the Issue for that one... had no clue

mark, is what you are saying that i need to change those Settings you mention each time, like setting them different when i want to trigger 8 VSTis and than again different for 8 ASR own tracks?
or can i have it set up permantently to one setting? (but i think i ve allready got everyting set up right... each INST has to be assigned to Midi ch. 1-8 right.. thats allready done)

i am sure i can have both selected at the same time / can record and playback 8 VSTI tracks aswell as 8 ASR tracks at the same time from the mpc Sequencer right?

hope i am not describing it more complicate than needed

Not at all Ion, however I'd say that a lot of time stuff that is complicated to explain is 100 times easier when you just sit in front of the ASR. I totally understand how important the theory is but sometimes you just have to face the unit and do it.
However - in answer to your question - yes, you have to have different settings for recording 'MIDI' tracks and recording ASR tracks. It does sound as if you've got it set up correct. I think you just might have hit a limit. I don't think you can have 8 ASR instruments and 8 MIDI data instruments at the same time, although Im happy to be proved wrong.

but that is pretty weird given that my midi data /tracks / sequences are not in the ASR but in the MPC....

but hey even if, limits are good for me :D

oh I forgot - mpc - I was thinking of my turbo phatt which doesn't have a sequencer of course -
in which case - you should be fine :)

I'm trying to format a new zip disk, and I'm not seeing the CMD->SYSTEM/MIDI->'FORMAT SCSI DRIVE' command (it should come right after CONFIGURE AUDIO TRACKS command, right?). Am I doing something wrong? I went thru the list of system commands like 20 times and its just plain not there. I can 'change storage device', I can format floppies, and everything else, but that one command to format a SCSI drive is not there.

Is it possibly because I'm running an older version of the OS? It came with a Zip already formatted with a copy of the OS on it, and a floppy (with no label) with a copy of the OS on it as well, and I can boot from the zip or the floppy just the same. I tried booting from both, and the command still isn't there... How do I check if I'm running OS 3.53?

----------------------

Also another problem is that I can't save an instrument to the included Zip disk. I know that the only instruments on it are the demo instruments that come on the original disk, and when I checked the FREE DISK BLOCKS it was like 190,000 or something (not in front of it right now), so there should be plenty of space. When I tried to save it to Zip said something like NO MORE FILES (I think that was it, but I know it wasn't any of the error messages on pages 332-333 of the manual).

I'm normally the type to try and figure stuff out on my own, but I would appreciate the help...

I was able to save the instrument to a floppy (thank God it fit on the floppy or else I woulda lost my first ASR-10 beat...) and I can also load those dem instruments from the Zip disk, so I'm not understanding why I can't save to the Zip...

Ive seen exactly the same thing about not seeing the format scsi drive option, I was using a pre 3.5.3 OS. As soon as I used a 3.5.3 OS the option was there.

Not sure about saving on the zip drive though - maybe its write protected or something. I havent purchased any specific asr zip disks but i tried to reformat the 'IOMEGA tools zip disk' as i figured I wouldnt need it. No such luck.

But for your first issue - 3.5.3 should fix this -

Yeah I know the iomega tools disk is write-protected, but it comes that way from the factory. You can only write-protect or unprotect Zips on the computer using iomegaware, but I doubt the guy would have gone back (after formatting it in the ASR, copying the OS/demo instruments to it, etc...) and locked the disk. But hey people have done stupider things before.

But anyway, is there any way I can verify what version of the OS I'm running?

ok so i sampled a drum break and i tried chopping it up into the individual kick and snare (im not getting any more complicated than that yet), and then i copied the wavesample so i'd be able to narrow one down to the kick and the other down to the snare, but how do i get them both on the keyboard? do i need to sample the individual hits from the record? that wouldn't make sense because then i would have to do that with actual samples that i want to chop up.

my other thing is that i made a sequence (i sampled the kick and snare separately and gave them their own root keys) and after recording for about 3 bars, it said "OUT OF MEMORY" i was like.... :?: ??? :?: ... can someone explain what i did wrong? all i had was a kick and a snare, both truncated, and a 3 bar sequence with the kicks on the 1's and 3's and snares on 2's and 4's... so basically the simplest thing ever. while blockhead is making complex layered masterpieces on the same machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvoQOAWiPow

drunkmonkey,

When you copy a wavesample, it has the same keyrange and root key as the original. You have to change the keyrange and root key (EDIT->PITCH) every time you copy the wavesample. So it goes like this:

1. record a longer sample
2. assign it to a root key. optionally you can change the keyrange (since it defaults to the entire keyboard).
3. copy the wavesample: CMD->WAVE->COPY WAVESAMPLE (PARAMS ONLY)
4. change the keyrange (to whatever you want) and the root key: EDIT->PITCH
5. change the start/end points: EDIT->WAVE

Note: The only time you need to make a real copy of a wavesample (PARAMS+DATA) is when you wanna do destructive edits to the sample, like crossfade looping etc. (the stuff you find in CMD->WAVE, CMD->AMP and CMD->LFO menus)

The above method is how this dude chops the sample in this video:

awesome. thanks. about the note thing at the end, what do you mean? i'd have to make a copy of the data in this case, to change the params, but what else are you saying, when wouldn't i need to make a copy?
thanks though, i get it now.

my second question still stands
