choppin samples on 2000xl

Lampdog, What does it take to make this update? Are you sure it can't be done?
How come JOJO managed with the 1000 and you say it can't be done on the XL?
i am sure there are million tweaks that can be done.
Who is the AKAI guy who programed the XL O.S?
I bet he lives in Japan and still works at AKAI, maybe It will take him a couple of hours the make this update.
Somebody knows how to track him?

you might not know this, but the mpc1000 is a much newer mpc then the 2000 and the 2000xl. it is also more advanced and has way more features then the mpc60, 3000, 2000, 2000xl... also, akai the company has been bought out 2 times since the 2000 series was made... and also, the OS was probably not even made by akai although who knows. the newer mpc series the OS was made by a subcontracted company. The reason the 1000 and 2500 has JJOS is because akai didn't pay them after writing the OS all the money they were supposed to and so they kept their work and tweaked it. then they released the full deal and that is what JJOS is...

that is not 100% how it all went down but it is a basic summary. It all boils down to... you are more likely going to get an update to the XL OS if you write it yourself.

I wish I was smart enough to write a new O.S. But I only know to do music. I love the XL and it changed my life, and i got no complains about it's operation. It's just that everybody that uses it ask this question about the Mutes and it's never going to stop I guess. I know we should all look at the half cup full instead of empty. Still it's intriguing to know if this update can be done someday, even theoretically. By the way my MCD XL dates to 2004, the same year the 1000 was born and the same year Akai was sold.

theoreticly its possible to fix the display problem too.

well just do the trick i mentioned... take a pad that is not being used by a sample and set it to mute the sounds you need muted... then tap it when you gotta. it will mute the sound but it wont make any sound... do it a few times if you need to mute a pile of things.

also, if you are having trouble making the empty pad act as the "muter" because you didn't assign anything to it... just assign a random sound to it and do the mute in your song. then go back in your program window and remove the sample from the pad again.

didn't know that either - have tried in the past to mute with no sample loaded to the pad, it didn't work at all. i'll try this tip out in the future, thanks
