shocks,wtf?
if you jack a snare from Chingy or one from Teddy Ptendergrass.it's still jackin'! It ain't about being lazy ..if I hear a snare or whatever and it's hot,it's chopped period!with the better technology the snares (or whatever) sound different(not necessarily better) than yester year."Lazy"....nah son,"non-discrimanitory" is what I call it.
You tellin' me that if ,say for example,Eminem had the worlds hottest kick drum the world ever heard you ain't gonna take it and tweak it a little cause it was from 2003 and not 1973?Not me homie...I can't afford to be a "snarist" or a "kickist"(snare racist, kick racist  ) I ain't gettin' younger....I got beats to make! :D

P.S. i ain't tryin' to sound like i'm startin' shit with you...i like a good old fashion debate don't you?

PGM I'm with shocks... There is a difference between jackin Eminem and Teddy Pendergrass...

Hip-hop was based on takin breaks... Not takkin other producers hard work and flippin it... That IS Lazy... I wouldn't care if Eminem handed me the master tapes to his session with the hottest drum track ever on it... I wouldn't jack it...

I'm tired of seeing people on here talk like it's all gravy to steal drums from another producer... I mean you do you, but don't act like you're doing anything special...

We all know the true crate diggers are puttin in more work and time for their sound by flipping some Teddy Pendergrass snares, than someone who just re-programmed Dr. Dre's drums...

The Digger Culture is at an all time low... Need some ethics up in here...

We should all jack Kanye's stuff on further oversaturate the market with his "sound" and bring his 15 minutes to an end.

I would join in, but I really don't feel any of his shit enough to sample it, even for spite.

Sampling obscure or old records is Digging, Sampling stuff from another producer in your field is biting. It's like incest, your sister's gotta faty as s, why don't you tap that shit? Or how bout your moms, she was good to me last night, so why don't you tap that too? It's pretty damn convinient you gotta admit, so you can be good an lazy and get head from the same lady that cleans your room.

(PS, that was at no one inparticular, I can't even remember who is in on this discussion, let alone who said what, so for any of you that think I'm talking about you, I'm not.)

Sampling off record or Cd for DRUMS is cool their is no code broken thier. Weather the drum hit was from a 1950s 45 or 2003 12" makes on diffrence, their is no violation their. If you hear a track on the radio, TV video, music choice or , DVD and then seek out the track your putin in work you still have to find the meduim to sample, you still have to program the drums into a kit, you still have to tweek the drums, hell you still have to have the ear to hear a slamin kick off of any meduim. To me thats putin in work. Now if you just use another cats kit all ready put together on disk and don't pay for it thats stealing, biting, jacking and thats wack :!: Kanye is a great music producer and everybodys got to reconize that he is doing it for him self and no HIP-HOP. The man does not give a f%ck about the culture. O on a side note in that ryme he says about him being the next Pete Rock  PISSED ME OFF

"Hip-hop was based on takin breaks... Not takkin other producers hard work and flippin it... That IS Lazy... "

so where are those breaks coming from then?Somebody must've produced and worked hard to make those too!

"We all know the true crate diggers are puttin in more work and time for their sound by flipping some Teddy Pendergrass snares, than someone who just re-programmed Dr. Dre's drums... "

same thing. That's like sayin' you're a TRUE producer cause you use a sp1200 because it's more work, and i'm not because i might use Fruityloops because it's easier.(i don't use FL by the way  )

"We should all jack Kanye's stuff on further oversaturate the market with his "sound" and bring his 15 minutes to an end.

I would join in, but I really don't feel any of his **** enough to sample it, even for spite. "

i feel you on that.

"It's pretty damn convinient you gotta admit"

i like to work smarter not harder.

Man vs Machine ...that's what's up son.

P.S. I read all of you fellas whenyou post replies to other topics and honestly i agree with most of you ,most of the time..but,once again fellas no beef, just debate. 8)

straight up racking drums directly from Eminem's zip disk.

yo itchy,

what do you mean by that ?

that Kanye stole a Zip disk from Eminem and copied his drums ?
did he really do that ?

(I did not read the new Scratch issue yet)

Yeah, he says he was in the studio with Em, and once everybody went out of the room, he just grabbed the disk and started copying drum files as fast as he could.

It's interesting to see dudes on both sides of this issue.

You have to realize....guys aren't mad at taking a drum sound because it's from 2004 instead of 1973.........they're mad at guys who will sample a drum off of Premier, when Premier did a lot of hard work to dig up and find an old drum sample, tweak it, and make it sound fat.

I can see both sides of the dispute.
I might take drums from a Ultimate Breaks record if I really have to, but I will layer and tweak it into my own sound.
But, I'm not about to take out "Low End Theory" and start jacking drum sounds from it.

The thing is, how are you gonna be equal to a Dre or a Primo, or Pete Rock when you need their shit to sample from? How can you even be considered in the same league if all you do is take their drums off their latest release and do your stuff from that? The large part of the creativity of hip hop is getting and molding the sound sources. Hip hop beats aren't too different from one another rhythm wise or structure wise, it is the sonic elements that help define it. The hunt and selection of those sonic elements is a large part of the act of creation. If you are just taking preset sounds from your machines and samples off the latest hits in the genre you want to produce in, you might as well just use general midi, that's not producing, it's regurgitating, and by the stuff people are mentioning, them sounds would make me up chuck too.

Eminem's Drums? Shit even dre's drum's aren't all that.

PGM... No beef at all, but how are you gonna compare me compressing, EQing, limiting, etc. a couple of breaks... Making one-shots and creating my own drum kit... How you gonna compare that to someone who just takes an Eminem, Dr. Dre or Alchemist Kick and re-arranges it... They definitely are being lazy about the whole process... Those producers that you are jackin put in work to get their sound... It's completely different from when you sample off of a vinyl... While this vinyl break was produced as well you still have to do a lot of work to get it to hit hard and match the sample right... Where as you would just be taking someone elses hard work and re-arranging it...

And the SP-1200 and FL comparison... Completely different subject... I mean the gear doesn't make you a producer it's what you do with it... I wouldn't knock anyone for the gear they use (except maybe some Triton presets  )... But the work you put into your drum sounds does make you a producer... So I fail to see the comparison here...

No beef, but I don't see how you can compare these two things at all...

I Love Diggin as well, but if Questlove has some all by itself $h!t on an intro or fill It's mine to jack. They put that out there for some reason (not the program).
And what about other live Hiphop bands like Breakestra?
They got some Ill Breaks that can be used as if it where recorded in '73, but it wasn't.

By elmacaco Sun Aug 22, 2004 11:49 pm
yah but you're sampling a drummer not a producer, and breakestra is somewhat obscure.

"No beef at all, but how are you gonna compare me compressing, EQing, limiting, etc. a couple of breaks... Making one-shots and creating my own drum kit."

Matt,I hear ya....I really do, but that is EXACTLY what I do too.

"you still have to do a lot of work to get it to hit hard and match the sample right."

"do that too

"And the SP-1200 and FL comparison... Completely different subject... I mean the gear doesn't make you a producer it's what you do with it... the sp1200 represents the "true way"...the "correct way" of producing and the fruity loop is the "easy" or "lazy" way because "ALL" your doing is clicking a mouse or comp keyboard.See how dumb that sounds.Using fruity takes as much time and energy to produce on as the sp1200..get it.
That's because you mentioned a TRUE crate digger.A digger is a digger,period.

"If you are just taking preset sounds from your machines and samples off the latest hits in the genre you want to produce in,"

huh?who said that?

"Where as you would just be taking someone elses hard work and re-arranging it..." again, same shit

Fellas ,
It just clicked...I THINK you guys think I mean to just take a snare off the new Youngbuck cd and leave it as it is.I don't.I eq limit compress, reverse, delay filter, whatever ,a snare with the same passion as
you do with a loop.I didn't mean it to sound that way, which it probably did.By my earlier posts what i was saying is that i don't care if it
(the sound) was from 1974 or 2004,if it was a snare ,kick ,horn, string I dont care...i'mma use it ....I DO change them up to make them mine,to make them different. What I'm thinking is that you fellas don't sample stuff because it was recent.Am i right or wrong ?

I have a feeling we're all talking about the same point but just are'nt communicating it correctly

By nanoloop Mon Aug 23, 2004 1:33 am
i'd swallow razor blades before i stole sounds of fukn eninem. then again he probably blows his millions on disks full of sounds and he is still wak. who gives a fuk what this kayne west dude says anyway. if he never brought it up could you have told if he'd lifted the sounds anyway. im gonna go release some more top40 trax, and fill the kids ears with more lies and bull.shite.

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to make a sick ill beat with samps
he even said so himself. What separates you from everyone else is
being able to make sick beats without using samps. Being original
and showing people you got mad skillz. Alot of cats are getting
crazy dough for using samples though and then again how much
are they really making because they are using samples of other
peoples trks the industry wants to know the source of your material.

I like to challlenge myself make my own sick sounds take samples
from my own trks and Iam not saying that I've never used a sample before because I have but it's too simple for me easy as pie no
challenge what so ever I dont make a habit of it and I rarely do
unless Iam paying homage to a classic and I just gotta take a slice of it
to give it some new flav.

you can and spend wisely if you do achieve success and support
those that have supported you".
