Where are the breakbeat diggers at?

How many of you guys digg breakbeats and just loop em up? Or do you guys chop em up? I usually loop them up and layer other kicks and snares on top and then I create the melody and maybe add some bass! Whats your technique? The raw breakbeats that are sold over the internet and on record stores do they have to be cleared?

I dig period. And yeah, i use breaks... sometimes i'll loop and sometimes i'll chop. Most of the time, i chop them up, rearrange and add some punchy programmed drums over the top.

Breaks are a gift from god. I just found a hot break last night actually. 29 cent 45 of the The Swingmasters "Razorblade"... hot record.

I rock a pair of direct drive stanton turntables mainly for sampling and not scratching!!! And hell yeah breakbeats are a gift from God! Pure hip hop at its finest! So you be rocking some beats or what?

Yeah.... i was a DJ long before i started producing. I rock mostly rare groove, funk and soul music. Lots of Donald Byrd, Lot's of Cannonball, cats like that.... i have a few funk mixtapes that i made if you want a copy i'd be glad to hook you up. Lots of original breaks. I even have an original pressing of the Funky Drummer reprise (not the Jungle Groove LP, but the Drummer reprise 12"!)

yeah man cuttin breaks is the shit. all my beats are made like that outta old ass records.

I use any drums, i spent 3 hours today going through all my old 12"s, scooped some sh!t offa NoID, Beatnuts, Tribe. I got hella more to go through tonight after I crack some brews, like 3 copies of Drum Crazy, and some obscure DJ battle records that only came out in the Bay.

im like you.....i just loop the shit, than add/layer snares and kicks...hihats too...sometimes i chop it, but thats if im in the mood, or need it to hit a differnt way.

i luv breaks.....and i am not afraid to use classics.
Its how you flip the instrumentals over them! ya know?

I do whatever the track calls for when it comes to breaks... I mean I always use breaks, but what I mean is sometimes I do what you do... Loop it and add some hits on top to make my own version of it...

Most of the time I chop the break and re-arrange it...

Sometimes I chop it into one-shots if that track needs an open feel ot it...

I do whatever the sample tells me to do... No set formula...

Do breaks have to be cleared in any way???

theoretically you must clear every sample no matter how short it is.

since u guys loop breaks, do u find that most LP's u find dont have good loops on them? I mean obviosuly if u get something like a dusty finger comp its gonna have shit but the average soul/jazz lp tends to be full of wack loops wassup? where should i be looking?

im thinking to just stop buying jazz and concentrate on soundtracks

I found the original to Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By"
It's a Quincy Jones record titled Summer In The City. Good shit.... also, with in the same song is the sample that the Roots used (i forget the song title.... it's on Illadelph and it starts with Dice Raw and a fairly rough piano loop. Then at the end of the verses it breaks into "OooooOooo, Yeah Heeeeee" female vocal... anyway, i found that little breakdown)

Also found a copy of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes "Wake Up Everybody" in great condition....

And an Ojay's in Philadelphia (1972) in great condition.

Nothing major, but it's nice to have that Summer In The City joint. That original will be HEAT on a soul/funk mixtape.
