I'm digging my mpc (JJOS 1 - upgrading to 2 and XL very soon), but I'd love to know if there was a way to do this:

I'm not a very good drummer and prefer to input my hits by step adding/taking them away while the beat is playing until they sound right. So I don't `record them in real time' at all, I just adjust their position by clicking them on and off until it gets funky. That's how I typically come up with a beat on Reason or Cubase.

Is there a way to do this?

Sorry if its a noobish question.

Thanks a lot.

Man that sounds like a long ass process to lay down a drum track. Sometimes it just takes time to get use to the pads on the MPC. Are you just recording one kick or snare drum at a time like overdub after you hit once and wait until the sequence starts all over? Learning the swing and proper time correction is your best bet. You just have to experiment with the swing. Which MPC are you using 1000 or 2500?

As eimer was saying, this can only be done in JJOS2, not XL, using Loop Edit Mode.

Each of the 16 pads corresponds to a note position on the Grid. While your loop is playing back, you activate and deactivate notes by pressing the pad for each corresponding note position.

Here's a picture from the manual:

...Did I mention JJOS2 rules?

Can't really see the MP being my tool of choice if that was my method.
