MPC60 Floppy drive question

In a pinch tonight I had to use an High density disk which I usually won't do. Is it strange that my MPC can use high density floppies without tape being placed over the HD hole? I thought the drive would not be able to format them unless it 'thought' they were DD. The drive is only a couple years old though, maybe that has something to do with it.

From my knowledge you can still use HD disks, but it is very taxing on the floppy drive. Best to use DD disks for disk drive longevity.

Formatting a HD disk as DD creates a magnetic imbalance which could cause potential data loss. Doing this doesn't cause any issues to the drive

Early HD floppy drives required tape so the sensor could tell the controller whether the disk was HD or DD. Modern drives are more forgiving than the older ones.
