Some people are just stupid......
Sampling is the foundation of hip hop music. Firstly from dj's cutting & looping breaks on vinyl and turntables, and then to looping breaks and samples with samplers. THAT is why sampling is "as big" as it is today. SAMPLING IS HIP HOP. While it is true that early hip hop releases were re-played interpolations of vinyl songs or live synths and 808 tracks(like "rapper's delight" or "planet rock" for example), sampling predates live tracks from the first block parties where hip hop was born.
Fast, cheap and convenient have nothing to do with it.
It wasn't convenient to set up a sound system with amps, speakers, turntables and 20 crates of records at the block party. It wasn't convenient to dig for a year before finding 2 copys of "it's just begun" or "ashley's roachclip" to cut up. It wasn't convenient to save up $3000 back in the eighties to afford a sampler with 2 seconds of sampling time in mono to make beats with. It wasn't convenient for groups to save up enough money to get into a studio to lay down their tracks so they could press a 45 or a lp.
The fact is, hip hop exists today because of the love that the early pioneers of this culture and artform put into it. It sure as hell wasn't because it was fast, easy or convenient. We owe them gratitude and respect as well as owning this artform and culture respect - and we do this by PAYING DUES. Which incidentially was an important part of hip hop culture until the late 90's rolled around...
So don't cop an attitude or assume people are stupid for sticking up for this culture by calling them idiots when you have only tried to make one beat by sampling and have owned an mpc for a year. That ish just doesn't fly.
If you don't have the time, energy, cash or dedication to go out and dig for records, that's fine. Just say that. But to infer that the foundations of this culture are stupid and idiotic just shows a lack of understanding on your part.
BTW - sampling into an mpc might change the sound of youtube sample, sure. But it sure as hell won't make it sound better - or even close to the quality of sampling from a vinyl copy...

what you've spoken here is the EXACT reason why ppl write off sampling... thinking that its fast cheap and easy... cant be... buy records includes giving each album u purchase @ least 35 mins or less per side... looking for the right loop, hit, whatever... plus... records can go for 1 to anything in terms of coin... YOUTUBE is fast cheap and easy... therefore it's a corner cutting maneuver... thats what sucks cuz these dudes say they reppin hip hop buy turning on the laptop... shyt buggs me being that these dudes can become overnight winners by cutting corners... meanwhile the real hard workers stay up pn the wax... plus shyt cant be a "rare" joint with 66789 posts....
co-sign. some cats are allergic to putting in that work.
