Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By meech sfc Thu Feb 04, 2010 10:05 pm
I got a midiman 1x4 thru box. Using the 500 as the master midi to that box will not power it.
Pluggin the mpc to a synth with a thru and then using that synth as the master for the thru box does power it.
any one know why?...
I just want the best clock signal that i can get with the limited table top units that im using.
Wondering if chaining it this way (through a korg ea-1 'cheapy') will con-volute my clock signal.
Most of my drum machines are circuit bent already so i don't want to use one of those clocks/ would the 1000 power it ?

MIDI is data not power.
Doesn't your MIDI box comes with a power adapter?

thanx Lampdog
I was just wonderin why the 500 doesn't power it and if anyone has had any experience using a thru box with an mpc500 or 1000.
This 1x4 thru box is powered via midi and or a 9v. I didnt know that was possible either.
If the 1000 will power it then i may upgrade sooner.

the 500 is usb1.0(ithink)
you need a bus powered usb2.0 computer to do this or other hardware
get an ac adapter

also I dont know for sure but knowing akai all the mpc current gens have the same usb port(its just for data transfer
it wont send/receive midi like a computer)

so its powered by bus power not midi

check this out ..... I know if you go to walmart or somewhere you can get a little usb to wall power adapter and run the midisport thatway...... if you cant plug it in direct ....its for ipods and zunes...

Correct, people just want too much, don't read the manuals and wish for
things that computers do.

No weeping over here, 500 won't do it, move to the next if you like or need to.

The mpc 500 was the only mpc in the "wont do it " list on the midi thru box website...
Man thats why I'm on here to get answers from pros but so far have only gotten uneducated / wrong answers and bloated opinions lol.
Any how the 500 was my entry to the mpc and i like it enough to want the 1000 now.

Go into the 1k forums and ask those peeps if it will power your midi box.

That's exactly why u need to do your own research, on gear your interested in.
Cross reference
"The mpc 500 was the only mpc in the "wont do it " list on the midi thru box website.."
info with the actual mpc website/manual and see what you come up with as well.
Put that work in since you don't want/like uneducated, wrong, bloated opinions.

Good luck.

Ok this is an OLD thread but..i'm having the same issue. Well I want to split the midi clock signal from the 500 to two devices. I do not see any splitters except the $100 Kenton that has an external power supply. Do any others exist? I dont want to buy an mpc 1000 just so i can do this! Did you find a solution? Thanks
