what synth for my mpc2000??????

i got my mpc, now im looking for a synth to go with it. ive been looking around for the past week and i just wanna know what are some good ones to concentrate on? some top of the line models and some cheaper priced ones that sound very authentic. im looking for bass, strings and other intrument sounds mostly. thank you for your time.

The Motif is kinda expensive but its got alotta dope realistic sounds.

mo phats our a emu mp-7 thats got a lot of good stock sounds.

Let us know what type of sounds you want from your synth. Are you after raw electronic sounds, or are you wanting realistic emulations of classic electric & acoustic instruments like Rhodes, Hammonds, basses & the like? Are you wanting collection of sounds you can use straight out of the box or are you wanting to do a lot of programing yourself? We need to know if we should be recommending things like the Nord Lead & Access Virus which are going to be very different from things like the Emu Mo'Phatt or MP-7.

Yes, I agree with you Nanoloop, but I think a lot of people (music tech stores included) use the word "synth" as a generic term for any sound-generating keyboard or rack that isn't a sampler.

Going back to your original question, unphaseable. I realise you do say bass, strings & other instruments so I reckon a funky "tweakable presets" unit like the EMU MP-7 is what you want to look for. There are cheaper General Midi type modules like the Edirol Sound Canvas which sound surprisingly good but you'll need a seperate controller keyboard then.

It is times like this you really need the big music stores you can visit for a lot of hands on assessment.

featherboy, so whats the differnce between a nord lead and a mo'phat. i like the authentic intrument sounds, not really into electonic sounding synth sounds. you said i would need a controller keyboard with the mo'phatt, why is this? thanks

I wouldn't get the mo phatt for acoustic sounds! I got the planet phatt and actually I only use it for bass sounds. I'm also thinking of getting a motif...
the mo phatt ain't got no keys or pads so you'll need something to trigger the sounds (although you could also trigger them with the mpc pads) but i'd recommend a decent midi keyboard...

The Mo'Phatt is just a rack mount module so it doesn't have a keyboard. You can trigger the sounds with MPC's pads but it would be difficult to really play it without some kind of keyboard.

The MK-6 is a keyboard which has the Mo'Phatt sound board.

Think of the Mo'Phatt sound set as a massive collection of ready trimmed & sustain-looped samples of all your standard funk, hip hop, soul, RnB instruments. You get loads of control over filters, envelopes & modulation for all these sounds.

The Nord Lead is a modern version of the old 70's & early 80's synths where you are mixing together raw electronic waves to make your sounds.

Actually the Mo' Phatt does come in keyboard form. It's pretty damn dope.

Yes, the MK-6 on that link is the keyboard version of the Mo'Phatt & the MP-7 is the slightly MPC influenced sequencer version.
