i would not trade my 2000 for any other mpc, it suits my needs. its very simple to use once you get the hang of the menus, which isnt really all that difficult, just read the manual. moving to the xl is sort of a lateral move, i dont forsee it being much "easier" for you to use at all. and in my opinion the 1000 isnt as simple or a natural feel the the 2000 has.

timestretching is a very important upgrade to the XL....a lot of the old songs are simply off beat, with the TS you can use different parts and make them all sync together without having to tune them...but it takes a lot of time to make it perfect...on the downside it can also cause distortian..i also experienced that on the MPC1000.

what made you hate the 1000 so much?

just curious

the 1000 was so difficult.. even with the things i already knew were difficult for some reason.. i love the 2000.. easy to use, less complicated

I just bought a 2000 from e-bay i keep losing the 2kxl auctions but got the 2000 on a buy now

still keeping my 1000 though i maxed out the ram and put a 120gb harddrive in it to store huge sound library that shit is my buddy but wanted another as they are fun and want have different ways of working to keep it interesting

still want a 2kxl because affordable yet 2000 will suit my purposes too

I'm a southpaw though and it seems the 2000 menu buttons were layed out very left hander friendly though as the druim pads tend to use both so fine on right but the button thing is cool to me all on left 8)

 Well I had that same choice recently, but my 2k screen was shot. That's what I looked at when buying a new(used) mpc. My 2k wasn't usable just because the screen was dead and **** paying almost what I got my new(used) mpc on another lcd off ebay. I liked the xl when I used one before, but I went with the 1k because, 1. I could find parts easily if something were to break and 2.when I tried it I liked the workflow. With jj os1 I didn't really find the 1k that hard to use at all compared to the 2k classic. All goes down to your pref, but I'm happy with the 1k.

it seems like the 2k and the 2kxl are the only left handed mpc or whatever..

i was faced with a similar problem recently...i was in the market for either a xl or a 1000...i pretty much crossed off the 2000 cause the xl seemed to have everything it had and more...i at first didnt want to get a 1000 cause its new school and made with cheaper parts it seems, plus i was all worried about what OTHER people were sayin about the 1000's pads and how they sucked and you need the $200 upgrade to make them have a better feel...i ended up with the 1000 for $580...all the xl's were about this much but they were all missing something or had shitty zip storage (which im sorry but that seems like it would hinder workflow on big projects). i was told my 1000 had the new pads but when i got it it has the original grey pads....I havent noticed any problem with them at all...ive never used any oldschool pads but these work just fin in my opinion....then i start reading how peeps spend all this extra money on extra screens etc...and im like damn: IM NOT LISTENING TO ANYBODIES OPINION ANYMORE! its all about what your workflow needs and you feel your self...id say get a 1000 cause its basically just like a xl when you have jj os and you have options for new storage mediums etc....plus parts are way easier to get.

i've copped a 2000 'cause is cheaper and it's a great machine
some say that old MPCs has more emphasis on the bass tones dont' know if it's true
the white lcd screen seems to works good... floppy is working fine
but i had to change some keys that were broken
