HELP.. BiG Pad problem on mpc3000

Im chopping up a sample when all of a sudden, i hit one pad and all of my sounds are playing at once. the sounds start stuttering and all play without me even touching the pads. I turned the machine off, rebooted and now my pads dont work at all. Any idea what my problem could be. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is an old post, but, in step 2, you suggest shorting the memory battery momentarily. Is this something you have to physically do or is it just a consequence of the unit being disconnected from power flow?

It sounds complicated just from my viewpoint, being a novice when it comes to any kind of technical handiwork. No memory component needs touching.

We are talking about the NVRAM memory battery.

The MPC3000 main board battery serves to protect NVRAM backed parameter data.

The battery does this by supplying power to said component when mains power is in an off state.

As the battery is soldered into the board.

The only way to quickly divert/glitch/lower power provided by this battery is to temporarily short circuit it.

IE: Temporarily connecting a wire between each side of the battery.

Doing this clears the NVRAM allowing the MPC3000 to restore default parameters from it's boot ROM.

FACT: You don't need to perform such an operation under normal circumstances.

If your MPC3000 is functioning correctly then leave it well alone.

sorry for jumping in ... I am in big trouble:

The Pads 3,4,7,11,15 just stop working or sending
any data after I've replaced the backlight on
my MPC3000LE ... the rest of the pads work well... ??!

I am totally lost ..... and scared that I've lost my great working
MPC3000LE forewer as I have no pservice like Forat
here in France .....

sounds like a trace on the ribbon is maybe damaged or maybe the thing isn't seated properly? I am sure you already investigated that however how can some pads work and some not? that helps narrow it down a bit...

I've checked the pads ribbon as first:
it was squeshed a bit by the cables coming out
of the top of display box
but it doesn't look damaged
i've reattached the pads ribbon again just in case

no go , same 5 pads dead
but I to think , why only these 5...
that doesn't make sence....?

is this the same mpc you have posted continuously about for the past few weeks that has never actually worked?

buy another one in better condition would be my advice...

well the MPC worked really well ,
few small probs were:
1.Floppy Drive ( I've found an external SCSI Zip drive)

2.double triggering pads - but I've found it was a matter
of adjusting my teqnique... so it's not a problem.

3. The screen was a bit to dimmed for my liking
so I 've replaced the backlight ......
and there I've got a REAL. problem

the 5 pads stopped working


so basically it was probably my own faulf
by beliving it's a "peace of cake"
to open up MPc and dismantle the display
and put it all back together

it's a very delicate job , for anyone tempting to
fiddle inside their MPC's,
there are so many fragile parts and cables there
that one can easily overlook ot bent
something insdvertly ....

guess that's wat happened to me - my own fault
