Hey guys
Just wondering whats the best way to get a more gritty early sample rate sound out of the 1000(mpc60, 3000 style)
I love the 1000 but just dont find it sounds as good as other samples

1. Load your sample to an audio editor
2. Change samplerate of the sample to 96kHz
3. Speed up the sample ..... lets say +24 semitones
4. sample this on the MPC by using your soundcard and the analog in of the MPC
5. Pitch down your sample to -24

nice one!

or you can imitate this in the MPC by pitching your sample up (or down)
by + (or -) 12 (or 24, depending how degraded you want it to be) and
the resampling it in the MPC.

pitch the new file down (or up) the opposite of how you did it before -
i.e. if you went +12, pitch it back -12 - and see how it sounds.

sometimes this sounds good, other times it adds undesirable artifacts.
depends what kind of sound you are working with.

give it a go!

^^Oh sure I forgot that the MPC1000 can resample :)

But on the other hand it isn't the same as the process I described. The MPC couldn't play frequencies above its own (half) samplerate. The aliasing artifacts in old machines is a result of false interpretation of frequencies above the half samplerate. Since the MPC got a samplerate of 44,1 kHz you need to speed up the original sample more than "back in the days". But when you do this you'll have to make sure that these higher frequencies don't get cut off by the samplerate of the original sample itself. Thats why you'll have to change the samplerate of the original sample in an audio editor to 96kHz BEFORE pitching it +24 semitones.

I never used a 1000 so I only can talk about the technical aspect and not how it really sound. I use this method with the 2000 thou

yeah for sure dude...

like i said it sounds good with some sounds, not so good with others...
it's all trial and error and experimentation etc.

its not a technique i use much cos it is pretty hit and miss - i'd rather
run samples onto tape or through other outboard processors...

but if you don't have any of these things then it's still possible to alter
sounds to some degree.
