Slaving Logic 9

Dear All:

I recently purchased a Mac Book and logic 9 to beef up my current set-up of MPC 1000 // Micro Korg // Mixing board, but I am having trouble setting my MPC as the center of this system...

I know that there are a lot of forums on similar subjects but I would really appreciate knowing:

1) Can I slave Logic 9 to my MPC so that the beat clock is controlled by the MPC?
2) Can I use the play button // record button // beat wheel buttons etc on my MPC to trigger Logic 9?
3) Can I record midi tracks through Logic 9 onto my MPC then have them mute and play back in the track mute section of the MPC?

My goal is to use Logic as a virtual keyboard so that I can record the riffs that I like through it into the MPC and have them play back out LOGIC. Using the MPC as opposed to logic as the control center of my set-up gives me a lot hands on flexibility for jamming and idea expansion.

If anyone has any input it would be very much appritiated.

Hi clint246clint,

Sorry for being so lame. I have been out of town without my equipment for about a month and was just hoping someone knew about these topics so I could review some more material and get a running start before getting back to home base.

If you knew of some good reference material that I could take a look at please let me know.

Otherwise I will review what I did using the manuals before I left and create a proper post once I get back ~

i think you cant slave logic 9 to mpc, because (not sure, but...) logic doesnt have midi clock sync input.
at least i didnt make it.

Correct.

You cannot SLAVE Logic 8 or 9 to an MPC using midi clock.

An obvious feature last available in Logic Pro 7.

Well I wanted to do the same as you. Make Logic slave to my MPC4K and now when I've worked some time in this setup I can't see any adventages of it. I record all my MIDI stuff to MPC and this way I can sync them together, so I can press play etc. in Logic and it will make MPC running, but no opposite. This way I can always use my Logic to control MPC and go before my MPC and control it on it's own. To sum up - Logic can control MPC, but MPC can't control Logic and it is running on it's own. You can make MPC control Logic, but I found it to be highly annoying.

how exactly did you get the MPC to control Logic... would love to know!

Apparently it's no longer possible,, (Absurd,, I don't get it.)

If you want the MPC to be the MASTER and Logic Pro 8 or 9 to be the slave you will have to forget Midi Clock.

Use Midi Timecode.

Wait a minute,, so you're saying it is possible? I'm using a MPC1000 w/ JJ OS, which includes MTC. This is crazy to hear because I spent over an hour trying to slave Logic 9 yesterday, and I'm not at all new to this stuff. (Just new to Logic.)

Yes, Logic receives midi timecode.

it appears that Logic and Mac just rename things and then call it their own..
so u can do everything. it's just a **** to get going.

That's a cool video. It shows a nice way to work, mainly for people using soft synths.

It's not exactly what I'm looking for. When Logic is actually Slaved to an external source, the Logic sequencer will run when the external sequencer runs. This is useful if you have audio tracks (vocals) in Logic, for example.
