MPC 1000 as a MIDI controller for an S-1000

I've been using an S-1000 with Cubase on an Atari-ST with a MIDI keyboard for the last few years, but I'm not that happy with tapping out drums on the keys and editing on the Atari. So if I got an MPC1000 I'm assuming I could use that as my sequencer to replce to Atari? Or would I be better off converting the S-1000 samples into WAV on my Mac and running them into the MPC?

If you are already comfortable using the s1000 sampler then I would get an MPC 1000 to go with it just to trigger samples that would be a nice setup.

So would you advise that I keep my samples on the S-1000 or would I be better off to sample on the S-1000 and then re-record from there to the MPC?

If your samples are already in the s-1000 then just keep them there and trigger them with the MPC 1000.I would trigger all of your old sounds with the MPC 1000 but anything new that you sample just use the MPC 1000 to sample with.What alot of guys used to do (some still due)is use the MPC strictly for sequencing external samplers,synths and sound modules.It's about what ever works for you though.A whole lot of guys have Midi Production Centers(MPC'S) and have no idea what Midi is or how you can use it to orchestrate and conduct several external sound modules/samplers at the same time.

The MPC doesn't have all of the synth editing features of the S-Series samplers. You could lose some of the detail of your sounds if they are programmed with some serious filters and envelopes and such. I agree. You can use both the S1000 and MPC1000 to create a stronger studio. If you are already tight with your Atari sequencer, why not just keep it coming. No need to learn something else if you don't need it right now. Unless you really want to.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm starting to think maybe I should just stick with what I have. Another option is grabbing the MPD-16 pads for tapping out my drums but this may be a waste of money since I'd still edit them in Cubase.....
