Newbie Backlight Soldering Question (for 60MK1)

Wuts Good, Brand New Here. Nice to See an active community.

My 60 MK1 has a dead backlight, I have been reading up on how to install new one, but I had a question that most of these instruction pages seem to overlook. When Soldering, do I hold the solder gun to the wires or the foil on the new backlight? Do I then wait until they both get hot enough then apply the soldering copper/metal? Just seems like need to do three things at once here and don't want to be confused and F this up.

what you'll want to do is cut the harness on the old back light and solder the harness to the new back light..
what you have to do is "tin" the two things your soldering..in your case,,the wires from new backlight to wires from old harness..

to tin..you will need to press the tip of the iron onto the wire for a few seconds untill its hot enough to take to the solder...then take your solder and touch the tip of your iron or the wire and get it nice and coated...

do the same to all wires..

then get some heat shrink tubing and slip a piece over to of the wires(harness side or light side,doesnt matter..

then test to see what is positive and negative,,then solder them together...now take the heatshrink tubing that should now be traped in the wire,,and heat it up over your connection until it looks like this..

Is the 60 different then the 2000XL backlight replacement though, or am I wrong in thinking that? The backlight replacement I got, has 2 very brittle foil/aluminum slices coming out if it that I somehow need to connect to the wires coming from the inverter. I'm a bit nervous because I can see myself melting that foil pretty quickly If I do it wrong.

Instead of tubes that you said, I think I was planing on using electrical tape after I soldered the wire and foil together. Is that ok? So can I just heat the wires until it melts the solder onto the foil? Or do I need both foil & wires to both be blazing, then apply the solder. Sorry for the dumb questions, I appreciate the help.

You want to heat up the wire and then add the solder to it. Then heat up the wire (with solder on it) and place it on the backlight tabs and reflow the solder that is on the wires. Take off the soldering iron and let the joint cool before moving it. If you have an alligator clip laying around, you can use it to clip the lead to the wire while soldering.

It should only take a couple of seconds to reflow the solder.

Electrical tape works as well as shrink tube.

So I did it. I turned it on and it worked. problem is now I have a dead line on my screen. Its annoying but I can still see everything. I think I f'd it up putting the chasis back on around the screen. That thing is a ****. Anyhow, Im glad my screen is bright. I'll take it being bright w/ a line then just dark as all hell.
