Aightchall, i read both manuals, tried for like 6 hours....

and i STILL cannot figure this out.

I have a yamaha digi stage piano. I believe the model number is DGX505.

Here's what i want to do (Can this even be done?) Say i have a nice little piano stab in the MPC. I go ahead and do an autochromatic assign, and create a new program. Okay, so now all my pads are loaded with this sample. I want to be able to map this sample accross the Yamaha's keys via a MIDI connection..... how do i do this?

I've tried the "handshake" method, and i got the wierdest result: the sample was there (on the keys) but it was layered with the voice selected on the keyboard (i.e. there was piano over my piano)..... WTF? AND it was only on like the middle 16 keys. This was without changing anything on the keyboard. So then i went to the MIDI menu on the Yamaha and set it up to the ONLY option available: Local (on/off) tried both on and off and nothing....

im not 100% put i think u need 2 turn of local on ur keys so it plays midi not wats on ur keyboard

I think you are right.

And then, after i do that... i get no sound at all. I understand that MIDI produces no audio signal, but if the sample was there when local was on, where'd it go?

Remember that the mpc2kxl is not a 'full' sampler you cannot just take a sample and 'spread' it over 8 octaves like a normal sampler can. The closest you can do is do an Auto chromatic assignment of the piano sample you have (this will create a program with the sample spread out over the 64 drum pads midi note 35 up to midi note 98 on the keyboard of your piano. As for the 2 sounds 'layered' together CristW is right turn the midi local to off on your yamaha piano.

All i had to do was turn the volume all the way down on the keyboard.
