OS2 or OS2XL

Kind of a rediculous question I'm sure, but why do some people swear by OS2 and recommend not to get 2xl? I went from JJOS free to 2XL without stopping to check out 1 or 2. Just looking for personal opinions.

Actually I would like to get to OSXL, but I still have alot of projects on OS2, so I want to finish up OS2 projects before moving on because I think If I were to save my stuff in OSXL certain parameters would be goofed up.

I went straight from 1 to 2XL, primarily because recording q-link changes was how I thought it should be in 2XL but the CHORD and ARPEG functions are, for me, a real bonus that make the MPC more of a versatile instrument.

Going by the chart OS2 has the following that OS2xl doesn't

*Extra Audio Play (Audio Time Stretch & Pitch Shift)
*Grid Edit (DRUM) 6PAD Mode
*Grid Edit Q-Link Real Time
*Grid Edit (DRUM) Loop Edit Mode
*Start offset of a sample (Audio Track)
*Pan in Q-Link NOTE ON

I have no idea what Grid Edit (DRUM) Loop Edit Mode is and this video doesn't really help

That aside - the only thing there I'd like is q-link panning

If you look at the chart, the amount and quality of feature you gain on xl is greater than what you loose, but there is something about the q-links between 2 and 2xl that is different - maybe you can only record 1 at a time or something, idk

I love the MAIN screen on xl, really helps with editing. I'm still learning basic functions but the work flow on xl is so much slicker than OS1.

If you have xl you can flip between 2 and XL, but when I flipped between 1 and 2 (trial) all my auto-load folders got messed up which kinda detered me from doing it often...

os 2 is more stable.
os 2 has XOX style programming in grid edit.
os 2 has more features in pad pattern mode (tune).
os 2 has twice as powerful qlink behavior and recording (note on & realtime).
os 2 has a better filter behavior with the qlinks (relative adjust instead of absolute).
os 2 has track automation (there is no way to automate PAN & LEVEL in os 2xl).

OS 2: ALL KILLER NO FILLER.

If you can be eff'ed, could you explain what these do?

OS2XL has a second filter per sample. (OS2 doesn't - that's a deal breaker for me)
OS2XL has an arpeggiator (I like to think of it as a souped up note repeat...)
OS2XL has pad-to-chord.

The only thing I miss from OS2 is the grid edit for q-links.

But I lost a beat last night, so I'm feeling you right now on the 'OS2 is more stable' part.

Thanks for the info, I have yet to have issues with the stabiliity of 2xl. I think ill give os2 a shot tho

I use OS2XL on my mpc2500.
It's never froze or bugged on me until it froze on me twice and once reset itself over two nights last week
Quantise Strength and two filters are the deal breakers for me, but that means nothing if it ever freezes on me again. I've been using 2XL since it came out. I never use the q-links, chord or arp functions.. but I really, really don't wanna lose quantise strength... it's such a biggie.

p.s. last week I was doing a lot of OS switching, so maybe that was the problem. Maybe I hadn't started 2XL with erase held down.

I'm intressed in the OS2 for MPC2500 (currently using Akai). I want it cuz of x0x-programing in grid. What I wonder is: if I buy the os2xl (which is the only one i can find at JJOS website?), then I can use OS2 aswell?

I had forgotten all about that... That's the other reason I went back to version 2. I've said it before, but the good thing is you can easily switch between any of the versions. Just make sure to put the name of the os used in the folder name, and be sure to use the erase button after loading a new os.

Someone asked if after getting xl for the 2500 if you can still get version 2. Yes you can. You basically just have to buy them all at one time.

while in os2xl it looks like you can't read the os2 file (i had to go to an even earlier version first), so it makes swapping between versions a bit of a pain
