Never understood how someone could not want to try the latest OS for any piece of gear. ???

The biggest drawback of the 4k for me is AKSYS.

I tried on at least 2 different Macs and a PC and never got a successful transfer.
It always froze.
This was with a 4k and a 4k Plus.
If it wasn't for the built in USB host and a CF Reader I would have never been able to move samples back and forth.

Still no comparison to the advantages of a 4k over the 2kxl.

so basically the AKSYS is just a system to transfer sounds to the 4000 like the "mpc editor" for the 2000XL?

Not sure what those features would be, but the reason i never looked at any other os versions was because i felt like the mpc already did all i wanted and much more.. The 1.71 would have to be pretty awesome for me to want to switch :D

Im using 1.60 because my mpc wont boot with 1.71.ouch!!!but i would use it if i could.why not??i have no bug issues so far with my o.s.and as for aksys its working great.some times dissconnects but what a great programe.The digital eq effect works v well.advice for all rich clever peeps,run her through a tube to warm her up.....

I love the 4000, but whether you need to upgrade to a 4000 from the earlier version depends on what you would need it for. If you do most of your production on the computer and want to use the MPC as a Sequencer/Controller, then you're good where you are at right now with the 2000XL. However, if you will use the MPC as a sampler/sample player, to offload some of the stress on your CPU by keeping your Drums, Samples, and/ or Patches inside of the MPC, or if you want to use the 4000's effects or filters, or layering or just like the sound of those converters, want a bigger screen, more pad banks, etc........ GET THA 4000 !!! To be honest, I use my 4000 primarily for sequencing and Midi CC stuff. I really cannot believe that we are now in 2010 and STILL the AKAI MPC Series Sequencers are still some of the most intuitive/ User-Friendly Sequencers on the planet, BAR NONE ! This is absolutely crazy ! How can AKAI not see what they really have ? I don't get it, but anyway....... Reub.

yeah,its the best interface ive used on any sampler.........looks real nice too!!altho it sometimes looses connection.but,no glitches/hanging/freezing ect,just open the programme again.voila

Sorry the MPC sold on ebay this past weekend. Now the next step is to get a 4000 and then I'll really be in business!!!!

Just be patient A-Sharp, ive gotten hella deals by just waiting it out.. You'll see one come along for less that what you were about to pay.

As far as making the jump. I agree with the others who mentioned 1. the sound quality is noticeable and 2. it all being about what you are going to use it for. (sampling, triggering, or whatever)

Lately, ive been using the 2000xl to trigger samples out of ableton live so.. The 4000 on the other hand has just been sitting with a powty face ;)

IT'S ON!!!! :D I finally got my 4000!!!! Damn this joint has hella sound manipulation options! Imma really have to be on grind time to get in the groove of this thing. :?

I now see why they never came out with a tutorial for this one....

Still glad at the choice I made...

Good job money. Enjoy it! The first thing I noticed was the expression of the velocity sensitive pads was more pronounced and sensitive. It seemed like there were more intervals than that of the 2000xl. Then there was the bit increase of course (16/24), which to me was very noticeable. It could be the different engine as well but thats just me.

yeah the 24 bit situation was one of the main reasons why I copped it. I've been seeing that alot of people on here have been saying that the sound quality is crazy......

Honestly, how good are those DVDs cause I've seen the demo one on youtube and some of the stuff that he explained was so elementary. I'm sure it got better as the DVD went on but I wouldn't want something that teaches me stuff I obviously already know.
