also, is there a way to just save a wavesample? when i get all my floppy disks in the mail i want to start sampling things and saving them and eventually be able to just pull samples from a library of them that i keep on floppies.. i understand thats how some people work, how can i save the samples to the floppy disks

Really man, really?

Yes you can apply an effect to just one sample, but not multiple different effects to multiple different samples, that's what your leading to isn't it, no, u can't do that, stop wishing.

No, u don't need to resample, you haven't dug deep enough into the keyboard yet, keep digging.

Saving would be on of the first things you learn with new gear wouldn't it? Learn it. Yes, you can save just one sample.
I've had this thread open for a LONG time and ur gonna make me think about locking it aren't you? Get a grip on yourself and play with your machine instead of just wondering about it dude.

Your gonna have to get some floppies and test out the stuff you want.
There not expensive, get up and go out and get some and see what your machine is about.

Preface ASR-10 Musician’s Manual
Disk Care, pg vii

...will tell you what type of disks to use.

pg2 About Instruments and Banks
Section 3 — Instrument, Bank, and Preset Concepts
You save INSTRUMENTS (all 64 keys on as10) to one file.

Section 3 — Instrument, Bank, and Preset Concepts ASR-10 Musician’s Manual
pg4 About Instruments and Banks
Important Notes About Banks
• The Bank file on a disk doesn’t contain the actual instrument and song files — it is just a set of
instructions telling the ASR-10 what to load and where to load it.

pg5
Saving the Contents of Memory as a Bank
Saving a bank is like taking a “snapshot” of the contents of the ASR-10 memory. When you later
load a bank, the ASR-10 “looks” at that snapshot and tries to recreate what was in memory when
the bank was saved. You can use banks to automatically load a new group of instruments and/or
a new song.

One of the faults people seem to have is comparing architecture to mpc's and persistenly looking for
something that just isn't there. It's not the same, understand that figure it out and move on.

ok thanks
i ordered two packs of these a few days ago
Maxell 3.5 HD 1.44MB Pre-Formatted MF2HD (10-Pack)

originally i was gonna look to see if the asr needed a specific type, but then convinced myself that any kind would do ( ) are these kinds compatible (i looked in the manual just now, and it seems like it should be fine but i'm not sure)

BUT dude you have GOT to get it in your head, the manual is the first responder to your crisis.

Drunk,

Sir, Im sure youd rather be watching Hannah Montana or whatever is you kids do rather than read a book about your ASR.
But a while ago I gave you 3 options regarding reading about your bit of kit

i) Get the manual you have apparently already purchased with your ASR-10 but has not been delivered as the seller's wife forgot to post it.
ii) Buy a copy of Sample Magic. This book is in print, up to date, and is totally relevant to your bit of kit.
iii) Buy a notebook, sit down with your ASR and go through the options, noting which ones would immediately seem useful, i.e. sample, quantize etc...then work on to the more complex stuff.

Im not going to listen to any argument about pleading poverty, you have been able to afford a classic bit of music kit, a blank notebook and some floppy disks should not be out of your reach.

We haven't even started on YouTube.
I'd probably have done exactly the same thing at your age.
The thing is, Id have some guys looking out for me and telling me to buck up, like you seem to have.

I'll give you the following

i) The architecture can be a touch confusing on the ASR-10. Even the official tuition videos note that you need to really know the architecture of the unit. There is no 'save wavesample' option.
ii) Other than this place, there really isn't a decent forum to discuss the ASR-10. The is a little knowledge on gearslutz, maybe futureproducers, not much else.

But let me break it down for you. Learning the ASR-10 isn't about TIME.

Its about Time and your effort.

Go and look and You Tube where someone has kindly uploaded some tuition videos. Get the fundamentals down.

A COUPLE OF ASR QUESTIONS:

1. How do I add different effects to different instrument? All I get is global effects on everything.
The effects part of the manual is a mystery to me.... But the effects seem like the main reason I would use the ASR for.

2. How do I make the whole sample play like the mpc1000 "ONE SHOT"? What I do know, is I go the ENV3 - TIMES and change release to 99, but if the sample is long it fades out. How can it play full volume all the way through?

3. Had this thing for about 6-7 months now. Never really had time to dig deep into it. For some reason I love this thing, but I havent found a good way to incorporate it in my work flow. Tried sequencing from from logic, aswell as my mpc1000 (JJOS 1 4.99), but I dont really see the point. seems like everything make more sence to do in the MP (or logic) other than using it for the effects.

- I would really like to know how YOU use it. (Especially people coming from an MPC perspective) What are the advantages? Dont you feel you rather make the whole beat in the MP and then just run it through the ASR effect before going to DAW?

- Also, let me know if you have any tips and tricks for the ASR!

Peace.

ion wrote:2)ASR 10, i ve that Output Expander, but eventho i ve read that manual i find myself unable to RE-route my Instruments

All from different pages of the manual, I placed "output expander" in the PDF search block
and hit enter, then F3 will bring up the next instance of "output expander" in the document, thus finding every
"output expander" within the pdf manual. Try it sometimes.

11) Output Expander (AUX 1, 2, 3)
This multi-pin connector is used to connect the optional OEX-6sr Output Expander box, which
provides the ASR-10 with three pairs of stereo outputs (or 6 individual outs) in addition to the
built-in stereo outputs. Each WaveSample, or an entire Instrument•Sequence Track, can be
assigned to any of the three AUX stereo pairs and can be independently panned within the stereo
field.

The Effects Busses
The output of every voice in the ASR-10 is assigned to a stereo bus. A bus, like the bus of a
mixing board, mixes together all the voices assigned to that bus into a single stereo pair. Of the
six busses on the ASR-10, three are inputs into the signal processor (BUS1, BUS2, and BUS3), and
three are direct paths to the AUX outputs on the optional Output Expander, bypassing all effect
processing (dry). The Destination Bus assignment for each WaveSample is set on the Edit/Amp
page. The voice settings in the sound can be overridden for each bank from the FX Select/FX
Bypass page.

AMP Press Edit / Amp / 1 (for Volume) 2 (for Pan)
WaveSample Volume
Use this parameter to set the volume of an individual WaveSample. This parameter also controls
the amount by which ENV 3 will modulate the WaveSample volume.
Range: 0 to 99
WaveSample Pan
Use this parameter to assign a WaveSample to a location in a stereo field, either within the main
outputs, or any of the pairs of outputs on the optional Output Expander.
Range: -99 (full left) to +99 (full right)

EDIT OUT (Output Routing)
AMP Press Edit / Amp / 9
This parameter enables you to assign instruments, layers, or WaveSamples to any of the three
effects busses. With the OEX-6sr Output Expander (optional) connected, it also allows you to
assign instrument, layers, and WaveSamples to any of the three additional auxillary stereo
outputs. This diagram shows how voices are routed through the Effects Processor and Output
Expander.

Range: BUS 1, BUS 2, BUS 3, AUX 1, AUX 2, or AUX 3
Note: When Sample•Source Select/REC SRC Field 1 is set to INPUT+FX, all Voices go DRY, and any
WaveSamples that were routed to BUS 1, 2, or 3 will all show OUT= DRY - - FX BUS IN USE on
this screen.

not at all... ASR chopping is sooooo much faster and productive than mpc (60 at least, wich is my case) it also has a sound i like better... more round warm, the 60 distorts too easily in unpleasant way (and i love lofi!)

the points are really covered and monkey... i think it was even you who asked for them?

i think its like this:
-you CANT put an effect on only one Instrument, you can only put 2 different fxs on 2 different Buses...stuff you need DRY you put on BUS 3 (or if you have the expander i think you can also put some on those extra AUX Buses)
i used that recently because of a Level problem between some loud and some silent samples and used the COMP fx to pump up the silent ones and used the Volume controll (for WS) for the other to adjust... that was within the same Instrument!
you just have to mess around to find out...

the oneshot thing was covered again, i dont really use it tho, dont see a need for it tbh... why do you guys need that if you chop properly? i mean you can always make another copy of the WS Data and chop that short!?

i ve got a question myself... did anybody found out how to get the ASR play velocity sensitve when hitting the MPC (60) pads wich is its sequencer in this app. ?
