Who still Uses DAT????

I would just like to see who out there still rocks a DAT machine...Not an ADAT cause thats just vcr tape...

I got a panasonic and it still goes strong....

I would mainly use it for shows...
recording them....


But them I got into using is again for all my sequencing...

I mean I can pump the levels 20x more than digital...

It allows you to drive the signal then when you bring it back into the digital world through the digital rca its phatttttttttttt...

But its still at 0 digital with no clipping

So if you got any tips share umm..

I like to-18d the signal with it being Hot that way I just Kind of compressed and limited and now I can turn down the signal gain and turn up the mixer...
And it gives the Ducking on the drums...Like allows more bass to breathe

Plus I got the DAt for 50 bucks used and it needed no matenence

fuc that, just use pro tools, dats are dinosaur technology.

That protools can only go to 0db digital
where as a DAT is Digital tape and Analog so therefore the Threshold for digital is 30db less than in analog....

So you can pump 20 db more signal to Dat than on pro tools

I know cause I use protools..I think the sound comes out much warmer when ran through dat...

So if you havent used it dont dis it and if you have used it then Im sorry you have a love for digital

Sorry to tell you but but there is nothing analog (besides the converters) about DAT. Thus the name Digital Audio Tape. It's all still 1s and 0s at the end of the day. DATs are limited to 16-bits, whereas your computer can record at 24-bits and much higher sample rates than DAT. Digital 0 is digital 0 whether its on a DAT, pro tools or whatever. Regardless of what the meters on your DAT are telling you, when it peaks, its at Digital 0. If you like the way the converters sound, then by all means use it. Just don't get it twisted with analog.

Check the magazines DATs now days are 24 bit

What Iam saying is that is was the standard and it still delivers way more warmth then any pro tools session...
I have used a neve console with pro tools and it sounded really good but when they did the other master on Dat we decided to send the DAt to the mastering plant cause the sound was much superior.....

Not trying to step on any ones toes, but I just was asking if anyone uses it and what tips they had no if they thought it sucked cause they dont use it .

You are right about the 24-bits. My bad. I don't think you are stepping on anyones toes. I'm not dissing it, nor am I endorsing it. All I was saying was if YOU like your results, then YOU should use it. I master to 1 inch two-track analog because I like the way it sounds.
