gonna buy a used mpc 1000?

so should i buy new or used? if i buy used what should i look for?
should i look to see if it has jjos?
any other info would be great

Just look at the pads , the 1000 must have the new pads on! (Mpc 1000 BK V.2)

I would recommend buying used. I was told my mpc had the new pads and upon arrival it did not. I wasn't too upset as they all still worked well and I got the machine for 300$. Since then I've invested in the JJos2XL, 128 mb, 8gb cf card, and new pads only to realize that I would really like an MV8800, simply because the sequencing on the MPC is weak in comparison. You won't find a very cheap used mv 8800 though.

And you want to say its cheap?? I bought a MV8000 almost new for 570 $........... Its Only what U pay for

And all that because "U" didnt like the "Classic-Ssequencer" and say its not good enough?

That's a very good deal when you consider what you received for such a low cost. I'd also like to get a HD for my MPC. It's unfortunate that your pads are bad, the replacement pads feel nice but I have some stipulations with them. They double trigger on me more frequently then the older pads did. I also play a few of my songs live, with no sequencing. In this situation having the stiffer pads was preferable. Otherwise, it was a worthy investment. They show no sign of failure as of yet!

Drop the steroids jigga, and keep the tone down. The MV 8800 seuquencers precision is max 2 msec, while the mpc-1000/mpc-2500 sequencers has up to 17 msec precision when all it's polyphony is in use.

I wouldn't go off of this. I buy & sell MPCs alot & have gotten two with the the black back that have the old pads installed. Actually have one right now, Bought it for $250 on Ebay, check out the back:

Enough b*llshit!

First off, dont go by the back panel! In order to confirm 100% what pads you have you need to simply move one of the corner pads. If any of the adjacent pads show movement they are the NEW style (the new style pads are all connected). If moving one pad does not create movement in the next pad they are the old style. CASE CLOSED

Now regarding what else to look at:

Check the CF slot. It is extremely common for a seller to bend/break a pin then sell the machine. This is a $125 part.

Forget about whether or not it has JJ. If it doesnt just buy it. Chances are it'll be an old version of the OS anyways.

HD upgrades are a plus but not a deal breaker. Same goes for RAM upgrades.

Make sure the seller is willing to power on the unit and show you all pads working and all buttons working. Common issues with the plastic buttons are dead tact switches. These are very cheap and easy to repair and shouldnt be a deal breaker.

just because its black doesnt mean it has new pads...it only had new pads if they were put in by the previous owner or the serial number has an extra letter in it i think its a k...but yeah tey dont all have it..but id say if you never used an old mpc, it doesnt even matter anyway...i have the old pads and they work just fine.

i wondered that since the new pads are more sensitive they prob just **** up more than the old ones.

In my experience the new pads are far less sensitive than the old pads. I have to use exorbitant force in comparison. I use the JJos2xl with all my sensitivity settings as responsive as possible, and it still isn't quite to my taste.
