props. i'm meeting a big A&R tomorrow for the third time. my 'rap partner' (wish there was a propper term for that!) is a little tranced by this kinda shit, no matter what i tell him. even if something positive comes of this meeting (which i doubt), i know i'll never agree to the bullsh!t contract they shove at me. that foul play dvd 'f@ck the industry' made me see the light ages ago, independent seems much more smart. i'm so glad you refreshed my mind before going to see that young, hip a&r guy tomorrow!

I'm reading a book right now called 'All you need to know about the music industry' by Donald S. Passman.

The book explains all of that kind of stuff into detail... read the book and you will have an upper hand as to know what to look for and ask about when being offered a deal.. it will give you bargaining knowledge so you dont have to end up like the guys on the petdance.com site.

You might want to look into reading 'This business of music' by John M. Gross

After reading these books I can assure you going indie is THEE way right now.

Which brought me to the book entitled; 'How to start your own record label' by Daylle Deanna Schwartz...

Alotta reading BUT don't you know knowledge is power, mang?

ORRR.. no just hear me out.. ORRR.. if your just an artist thats only into the artistic side of his craft and not the business side then forget you even read this post and inevitably end up like those artists

Make sure you got the sixth edition of the Donald Passman book, unless I just bought an out of date book and there is now a seventh edition.

Everything is up to date, the music industry changes alot.

I read first edition of that book many years ago, i saw there is a new edit of it with internet updates

This is the book we use for my music business class

just ordered these books, with exception to the 'start your own record label', it wasn't on amazon, so i just bought 'how to get signed to a record label' by the same author. should be just as wholesome i reckon.
