U know, when I first got a 1000 I read on here from someone who SEEMED knowledgeable-- The MPC1000 main (ST) outputs sound the best, for recording analog out of of the MP.

After reading that I NEVER have used the four individual outs, and always record two tracks at a time out the main outputs.

Is this crazy? Does anyone agree that the individual outs are quieter or worse signal in any way?

That's why I suggest to peeps that already have gear to explore their gear fully and not listen to
much of what people say. See and do it for yourself, lol.

Me, I still would have tried my indy outs just to see what was what and if I could benefit from using them more.
It's part of the machine so you should at least give it a fair couple of tries right?

For sure, I'm usually a real scientist with this kind of stuff. But the situation had been that I was tracking at home with a 2-input interface. These days I'm tracking at a studio with a LOT of options.. and I'm like wait a minute, wtf am I doing..

Anyone else wanna chime in here? If my inner scientist gets me doing a lab test I will of course upload the results for everybody

i dont think the sound quality is much worse if at all but the indy outs are a great time saver having all tracks recorded out in one take or 2 depending on how many tracks to bounce. If it is quieter at all jus turn the levels up in the DAW and its back to normal.

UPDATE-- I finally got around to doing some testing. The verdict-- The indy outs seem to sound just as nice overall, however THERE IS a greatly increased noise floor. This could just be my particular mpc, although it's otherwise flawless and has been babied. The noisiness seems to increase from left to right across the output board-- cleanest on the R output, and dirtiest on the 1 output.

Check my sound file and see for yourself. It is the same exact sequence, recorded through LR, then 34, then 12. Each section is normalized to 0db.

Files available for download:
IndyOutsTest_ST_34_12.wav Size: 6.3MB

You can download these files up to 10 times each over the next 7 days.

on the contrary, they sound EXACTLY the same as the stereo outs...with the newer jj os you can even use those stereo outs as individual outs too giving you six, or 3 stereo sets. i do this with the free jj os even.. i have been hookin them all up to my roland vs and it sounds real nice having all sounds separated into their own channels. plus being able to see the strength of the sounds on a meter instead of just hearing def helps alot....it opens up doors and helps to give more room it seems for a more complex mix.

really? thats a bummer...i dont have this problem as mine all sound exactly the same...no extra noise..they sound perfect through my vs....are you sure its not the device you are running them through? or maybe you have damaged cables and the sound is coming from that....just an idea you prob already thought of.

The guy probably compaired one of his two tracks with one of his mixes which he tracked out individualy. If u suck at mixing then yeah, the individual outs seem to sound worse.

there is one crappy thing i noticed about the individual outs...at least on mine with 3.09, my effects that i have on dont run through those only the stereo outs...it probably says that in the manual though...kinda a bummer though :(

That's why there's the resample feature.
The machine and the fx weren't designed for final mixing. It was designed to compose tracks and the fx are there to shape the sounds, and to be tracked out into a daw/recorder for the mixdown and apply fx there to make the sounds sit perfectly in the mix. That's the reason why an mpc comes with multiple outs. Mpc=pre-production, DAW for post-production.

Of course u can mix it inside the mpc, but it won't give u the best results because it wasn't designed to use it like that.

I'm sorry, I'm new here. That doesn't make sense to me.

thats why im glad i also got my vs 880ex hehe and yeah you can mix decently if you use your effects and filters wisely...it actually makes for the perfect pre track out mix. it would still have been nice to be able to use like compression so you dont have to waste an effect for instance like in my vs where i only get 2 effects...i dont like taking all kinds of time to resample and rerecord shit otherwise id just do that in my vs virtual tracks.

Shiit... I had a feeling someone would say it's just my unit. Anyone else record and carefully analyze all their outputs?

ed solo wrote:My MPC1000 has exactly the same problem. Heavey background "HUMM" Noise on Output 1/2. Output 3/4 is less noisy. Ouput L/R has almost no noise.

Thanks! Exactly the same as mine. I'm willing to bet that all the 1000's have this defect. Since few people really use let alone carefully evaluate the outputs, it's going unnoticed. SCANDAL!!!

I'm testing the 2500 indy outs next.
