Recording via Input Thru

Morning.

Mpc 2500 with JJOS XL.

Im getting into using filters and can see that by pressing the Input Thru button - I can filter my inputs which is great - and I can see I can also play sequences in memory and mix those in with the input.

Now this is great - but I note that I can't actually record this...is this right ? I've gone through the JJOS manual and can hear what I want to record (i.e. Input in and the filters set up)...however when I go to record mode I lose the filters, and from the Input Thru screen (with the sound level monitor and everything) I cannot see a way to start recording.

Is this correct and is the Input Thru feature just to audition how sounds would work through a filter or can I record direct from this screen ?

Just use an audio track for that purpose. (drum=>midi=>audio)

Yeah use audio tracks, then just set the filter cutoff on the audio track to the same value you had on input through.

^Exactly.. Audio Tracks record the audio the same way as in Record screen-- incoming signal is not modified by the Input Thru filters/fx.

The Input Thru filters/fx are mostly for live use, or just seeing what something would sound like w/your sequence before recording it

you can record with the input thru fx. just set source to "main out" on the record page.

The QLinks bend the pitch only on the Input screen [MODE]+PAD8 - NPUT

but not on the main screen on the audio track or anywhere else?

how to record the input trough real time pitch shift properly on OS1 4.99 MPC1000 ?
any step by step guides?

you can't in any os. you can't even use that pitch shift while the sequencer is running.
it's a wack feature, in my opinion.

hmmm, sure if someone is using good Audio editing software than Any of those extra functions in JJOS not really needed.

But I would like( for the moment to stay withing the MPC/turntable environment... for
mastering the MPC skills and getting the max possible out of it before touching computer...

Example:
what if all I got is an MPC1000 and any audio input ( vinyl, cd, radio, iPod , mic, etc) and like to record the sample in with ajusted pitch but kept timing?

Or , what if I got a sample in MPC memory that I would like to adjust pitch or tempo to the playing sequence or and audiotracK or just a sample assigned to some pad?
not using Sample Mode Edit functions but using Real Time Pitch shifting?

Yup.

You would need another sampler (or audio recorder or DAW) to capture the real time pitch shifting... Real time pitch shift has been useful for me on occasion, using a second sampler to capture it.

the only reason I ever use the pitch shift in input through is to preview how things would sound if i sampled them tuned up or down when I'm sampling from radio or tv/dvd etc. I only used it twice though an I agree, it's a shitt feature.

hmm, if u used it to only preview how some sound source would sound before sampling it, than how did u sampled it piched shifted the same way as you liked it "previewed"?
And I don't mean "edit" pich/time stretching function in Trim Mode...(cause that is not real time and there is no good way to preview before actually altering the sample, so it's very time consuming to get it right pitch/ tempo wise ..

why are people saying that you can't record with this feature? just hit the record button
