Any advice on how to pick the best drums to go with your samples? An also, any advice on what drum patterns fit best? I find myself using the same old drum patterns!!

Usually if I'm stuck on drums I'll get the sample all chopped and lined up then take it from there. If there's drums in the sample that are loud you can try matching them with a similar pattern but better sounds then elaborate from there. You can also try a basic kick, snare pattern then layer some breaks on it. It's all about experimenting.

I remember when I first started out making beats I use to use whatever drums that was in the bank and they would not match the sample at all. The drums and sample would clash making it undesirable. The best bet is to train your ears until you find the right one and what youre looking for. Again, its all about ear training. Good luck.

Part of the producer's job is picking out what sounds good and what does not. This is why people such as Timbo and Kanye West are so successful because they know what sounds good and what does not.

Think about what type of mood your trying to convey in your song and pick drums that match it.
