s/pdif ?'s

I just purchased a m-audio audiophile usb interface, it has s/pidf just really wondering. What the benefits are and if its worth it to go that route, don know much about the technology. Any info would be appreciated

SPDIF is a digital connection. By using the SPDIF out of the MPC to the SPDIF in on the interface you are avoiding the cheap pre's the maudio may have come with. You are also avoiding extra conversions. Bottom line you are getting the most accurate sound of of the machine into the computer. and yes you can use an RCA cable but it is not recommended. SPDIF cables are 75ohm and the result from using an RCA are usually clicks, pops and other errors in the signal.

I'm following you here. I have a MPC1K tracking into a Mbox 2 Pro. Right now I am recording 6 tracks at one time.

If I have a project that is 16 tracks and I want to record into Pro Tools using only a digital signal, I am going to have to record 8 times (provided everything is mono). So, two tracks at a time, set to L and R in the MPC mixer right?

Since SPDIF mirrors Stereo and I am recording in "Song Mode" on the MPC, everthing else that I am not recording (at the time) needs to be set to something other than "L" "R" or "ST" on the MPC. Did I get that right?

Correct. And its not all that bad. It takes a bit longer but not too crazy. Personally I do all my stuff 2 track. The 1k can put out a real nice sound if you get busy tweaking and use quality samples.

Man, I thought I tried that, but for some reason it un-muted in song mode. I'll give it another shot though.

I swear I tried that before and it didn't work, but I think that was my MV when I was trying to track out using Solo instead of muting the others. That's another story. I got it. Good look.
