1. Next time contact eBay (or PayPal) instead of mpc-forums

done (paypal).

though i bought this mpc through this forum - ad posted here, not on ebay.

2. When sh*t don't work, sh*t don't work return it don't try to fix it

this is so true.

i serviced myself my mpc 2000, mpc 1000, juno 106, guitars...

what i learned : it is not because i think i can do it that i should do it, especially if seller tells me to do so.

3. 100% feedback can also means you were the first.
4. Always ask about returns before you bid on a non-dealer item like this

again, this is si true.

5. Watch out for gear flippers since they don't know the item

yep...........

Not passing judgement but seriously this was handled wrong in so many ways and now has to get ugly for no real reason.

hey, you can totally judge here, that's the point of an open forum. it hurts, but it's real.
i bought tons of musical gear on the internet over the past 10 years. stuff that i use everyday to make my music.
it is the very first time i experience this, both as a buyer and a seller.

anyway, thx for your tips guys.

You are a brave man indeed. ???
Gotta say for something that's not hard to find I would never go that route, that's pretty much like going to CL.

Funny thing about this whole deal is it seems like the classic declare a false value to pay lower fees to cross the border.
Problem with that is it becomes an under insured package if anything goes wrong.
My reason for saying this is why no insurance claim on a defective item?
That would have solved everything in a more direct fashion since the seller would get his money back from the claim and could have returned your money.

I wish you much success with this delima.

brave ? no.
stupid ? yes.
you have no idea how much i regret this very precise moment where i said to myself : yeah, i can trust this guy, he is on mpc forums, ebay, gearslutz (which is basically what he said when i offered to use ebay).
and again, i bought tons of stuff in the past. and i am naturally cautious. learn from that...
i still think Detail didn't know about the issues, just that he bought some stuff and sold it right after, without testing it extensively.

Detail put something like 100$ value on the package, without asking me.........
Paypal dispute is the only way now, hopefully with common agreement.

Some news regarding the mpc : i dropped it to a service center yesterday, i will know exactly by the end of the day what are the issues. at least this can be helpful for the community !

When I asked about insurance at the post office they basically said it only covered to the Canada border, not over, so basically the insurance is that it gets to Canada and that's all. It's funny that all of these burdens fall on me, which is easy to do after the fact, but really it's not my fault. If you wanted insurance and paid for it I would have gotten it regardless of what the person said to me. If you wanted me to declare it at a higher cost I could have but you didn't say anything, so what am I to do? Use my discretion and past experience shipping goods abroad where typically the people want a low value and/or marked as "gift". Which is what I did...

Wow. Crappy deal.

So, when the screen cuts out, is it the LCD Panel, or the Backlight???

When it cuts out, slowly adjust the LCD Contrast and view it from various angles to see if the display is there on the LCD

Is the machine otherwise functional? Are you sure it is an issue strictly limited to the screen? (Aside from the one pad)

I have some brand new MPC4000 screens left.

Might be able to help you out :) I could either repair your original (Have fixed a few) or sell you a replacement LCD/Backlight/Complete screen.

I offer the backlight or LCD seperately to show I'm not placing an ad. Doesn't benefit me to break up a brand new screen,
would just like to see u up and running as economically as possible.

There are 2 seperate connections TO the screen assembly itself.

There is a power cable that feeds the backlight only.....
The 14 pin that supplies voltage and display signals to the LCD Controller PCB.....

Also, it could be the ribbon connecting the LCD to the PCB..... if that is the case then you're screwed.

Also, it almost sounds like a component level issue like a Capacitor or something.... heats up and fails....

Could help you a few different ways.....

Could sell you an entire screen.
Could sell you the LCD/PCB Portion
Could sell you the Backlight Portion
ALL NEW
Or
Could sell you a used screen with lines and good backlight, entire assembly
Could sell you a used LCD/PCB portion
Could sell you a used Backlight portion

I'd offer for you to send me your screen for repair, since you can't use it anyway, and I could ship it back working,
but I'd have to tamper with my 4k to do so, and mine is in use in a commercial facility every day, so that is out.....

Just give me a shout if any of this helps.

If not.... no prob and good luck!!!!!

Sounds like dude should have already resolved this with you already.

Not takin shots at anyone.... just sayin, this ish shoulda been honky dory already

Hmmmm.....

Well, Paypal may help.

Also, I always pay through paypal AND my Visa debit card.

If paypal won't do anything, I file a claim through VISA and they treat it as fraud, I dispute payment, they yank the money back from dudes account plus fees, and I get my money.

Just a thought.

Also, it helps that my studio related purchased are made through my business checking, which also has other features... they cost me a little to use, but as a last resort I can always sell the claim to a Collection Agency

hey SMC

thx for offering your help, much appreciated :)

A service center identified and repaired the mpc, i got it back last friday :
a cold solder joint on the main pcb would cause the mpc to work intermittently, lcd screen being just a symptom.
they had to disassemble the whole stuff to find out, it was clearly a preexisting issue.

I asked Detail to refund the cost of repair, he did not even reply to my email...

If paypal won't do anything, I file a claim through VISA and they treat it as fraud, I dispute payment, they yank the money back from dudes account plus fees, and I get my money.

yep, that's what i will do if Detail doesn't pay for the repair.

thx again for your help SMC

Need to be more careful what you post, admitting to fraud is a brave move. ???
Selling something and declaring a lower value with the gift notation is fraud.
Don't believe me call customs and ask them.
Doing it and admitting to it is ...............

So many lessons to be learned on both sides from this transaction. :(
