Whenever I try to program a decent amount of samples (like 6 or 7) at a fast pace, the samples cut each other off. Like if I program hats, shakers, bongos, etc. (all on different tracks) with the time signiture 1/32 or 1/32 (3) the main sample/bassline will cut off as if its in a mute group or something but it isnt. I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else? I'm thinking its my os, JJ OS 3. 08, but not really sure. Any help is appreciated. thanks

I think that this is a polyphony issue! Make sure that your drums are set to monophonic, or else they will build up in the polyphony line and interrupt with your bass line.

all on mono, still having the problem. its like when to many samples hit one note all at once they cut off my main sample. Like I will have a hi hat, bongo, kick drum, shaker, all hitting on particular note at the same time and it will cut my main sample and bassline playing over it. All my samples are in mono and its still happening, once again making me think it could be a bug. Maybe a newer os would do it? What do you guys think

Yeah but what's strange is you said you have 6 or 7 sounds, even if they were stereo and playing all at once thats only 12 - 14 voices and the mpc should be able to handle 32. Try opening the project in the akai os or the jjos1 demo. JJos1 also has a voice monitor which could be of interest.

Okay, you edited that from poly to mono. If your program and pads on that program are set to mono, try changing it to poly. If your under 32 voices polyphony shouldn't be the problem. If all else fails try opening the project in a different os, preferrably os1 demo as that has a voice monitor.

k I got the voice monitor pulled up and it looks like I'm at or exceeding my 32 limit for poly, but I'm not sure why this is. Here is my specific beat I am having trouble with. I have a kick (which is actually 4 kicks layered on one pad) snare (also 4 samples on one pad), a shaker (again 4 sounds on one pad), a hi hat (same thing), an 808, a track of bongos, a crash, a bassline, my main sample, another vocal cut underneath. I was thinking maybe the extensive layering on each pad was leading to my exceding the 32 limit but if its mono and all on one pad doesn't it register with the mpc as one sound instead of 4? I'm kinda confused, what do u guys think?

Okay this is good, now you know exactly what the problem is. Unfortunately every sample played, be it single, layered, or simulted, is going to count as a voice. Now it's up to you to do some creative problem solving. A couple of suggestions would be to subtract the least significant layer of a pad. Or you could re-sample a layered/ simulted pad so it would be a single sound. At this point it's up to you and whatever you think works best.

Edit: Also, try converting some stereo samples to mono.

The 32 voice limit can be very hindering for beatmakers who like to layer sounds. I sample all sounds (guitar, vsts, keyboards, etc) into my mpc1k, so i usually use up my 32 voices pretty quickly. My work around was to share the sampling load with my s3000. As far as the original poster i think the re-sampling feature would be your best bet.

sorry but i have to bump this cuz after reading this post, i wanted to see what my polyphony usage was in jjos2xl. I loaded up a simple kick and went into voice monitor mode to check it out. WTF!!!!! Not using note repeat or anything that one single kick used up as much as 18-22 voices. This does not seem right at all!!! no looping, fx, crossfading or nuthing. Just a short thumping kick. I could understand this maybe happening with a sub bass kick. Even with the program in mono, it still got up to 8 voices. Now im concerned. I am going to load up jjos1 and see if there is a difference. But to me it DOES seem strange for this many voices to be used up with not much audio being pumped out of the mpc.
