man...i don't understand some cats.......

George Clinton was a producer

Quincy Jones was a producer

.....

Dj Premier Sampled stetsasonic b4.......Prince Paul is a producer

I don't think itz wack to take drums

that'z like saying "taking drums from vinyl is wack because it is compressed and eq'd already"............but I haven't agreed totally because I think that "throwback" song is commercial.....and just because someone snatches drums doesn't mean they are gonna ever use them!

Yo straight up sampling hip-hop vocals is not wrong... Zcamel said something about that... Not that he was saying it's wrong, but I mean since Marley Marl it's been part of the culture to scratch hip-hop vocals or just vocals in general on the hook... No one here said Premo was weak for sampling Royce da 5' 9"s vocals... That's the culture right there...

This discussion was about drums... None of the producers you listen to except for maybe Kanye have sampled drums from other producers... If they have they damn sure haven't admitted to it... Kanye did this on one track and he told about it on his album... He was in a situation where he needed to get the track done and didn't have the drums... Dre did... I wouldn't do it, but I would hardly knock the man for his hustle... Last time I checked, none of you who sample from current producers are in a situation where it's between you makin a hot track for Jay-Z that will pay the bills or having some ethics and not sampling Dre...

Sampling from current producer's is wack... Get your own sound... Stop jacking the culture and know your culture...

Hip-hop was founded on sampling, but Premo, Diamond D, Showbiz, Large Pro, or Pete Rock never had to sample Marley Marl or any producer for that matter for their drums... WHY??? Not because they couldn't, but because they knew it was off limits...

It's called PRODUCTION... Produce your own sound... Cause re-arranging someone else's sound is weak...

correct me if i'm wrong, but did Kanye sample the sounds or did he replay the pattern? and honestly, if you had to, i bet anyone in this forum could come up with something using some preset drum sound that the manufacturer of some company provides...you are right about production, but i think some people take the "rules of hip-hop" too far...ain't hip hop about doin your own thing? if i wanna do something with rules then i will play regulation basketball...i do hip hop cuz i can do what i want...

Here is the nervous point of the story : When you make hip-hop beats, you take a sample for the melodic part, no discussion. But your originality comes from your drums sound. That what makes difference between hip-hop producers. Drums are about 80% of an instrumental.
Hip-hop is a competition : if Primo for example have mad drums kits, you must sound phatter, not jack is beats...

I think this sums up the whole thing quite nicely...
RIP Swissmaster Cheese!

I do sample some current producers... the ones who twist knobs in an old moldy basement recording mono funk jams to 2inch tape.. Not the ones using protools in a penthouse studio, sitting on a 1000 dollar leather chair...

Ther are no "Rules" of Production or hip-hop... But back in the days there was an unwritten "Code"...

People had too much respect for the art to go about jackin other's drums... It prolly happened occassionally, but it wasn't rampant... Now I come on to this forum to see half the people on here talkin about, "Yo just take the drums off this new Multi-Platinum album"...

That's the sh*t that pisses me off... You're gonna do what you're gonna do... I'm not here to stop you from doin that.... I take it personally cause I love this culture and think this sh*t degrades it (no names, nothing personal so I don't wanna hear b!tchin from anyone like I dissed them or something)...

not that I would do it...but if someone else do it I am not gonna take it personal..........a sampler is to sample whatever inspires you........................

prah , your the voice of reason homie..i say to each his own, im more concerned with what I am doing and where im at , not how the next man gets his hi hats

It's called PRODUCTION... Produce your own sound... Cause re-arranging someone else's sound is weak...

However, they do not sample other producers.... Gettin creative wit someone elses production creativity is wack.. End of story...

I don't know how any of you hope to become great producers or anything if you have to jack other producers for drums... Come with something original...

For the record, if u sample stuff from anything that was previously recorded, you are sampling from a producer...so your comment about sampling from producers is really crazy...a sound is a sound, you can take the drums from Grindin, and if u make a song, I bet it still won't sound like Grindin...

the grindin drums are korg triton presets lol

What`s mine is mine, and yours is mine give it up mark!!

At the end of the day i can never learn to earn my own shit. Jackin for beats is easy. But learning to eq and creative my own shit takes time.

I would rather learn how pete, blaze, dre, and other eq, com, and layer their shit so I can make my own variation.

No rules just I would wanna to eat sloppy seconds.

It tastes and feels better to do it yourself is the main point.

Self pride in your work, skill, and gifts. Some thing no one can take away from you knowledge and understanding. Learn how to do it and it is yours.

No one can tell anyone what to do. But only you can really know if you have something of value or not by the effort you but in.

Teach a man how to fish and he can feed himself. :D

A great beat is a great beat sampled from current producer or not. But a masterpiece is the time, sweat, creativity, and love that you put in it makes it yours not his. :D
