What's not good is your reading...The MPC 100 can only support 128mb of ram, and the way it reads cards it reads only one side. A typical ram card that fits uses 64mb panels (4 of them, 2 per side) the akai ramhas 2 64 panels on one side, making a 128mb ram card give you 128mb of ram...all other cards, you need to buy twice the ram to get what you want...ya feel?

i looked through this thread but couldnt determine weither or not the ram is DDR or DDR2.
Can someone please elaborate?
i have an old pc im taking apart and its got 2 x DDR 512mb rams, hoping to recycle one of them in my 1000.

So can someone break it down as if I was a newbie? LOL...Sorry but I need someone to reiterate which RAM to buy...Can I go to Best Buy and buy this type of RAM?

What exactly is the brand and model again? Once again Sorry

I just want to get this clear because I want to max out my 2500

if someone could email me at [email protected] it would be gladly appreciated, I dont want to cause any trouble

OOPS, I just bought an 8GB KINGSTON COMPACT FLASH CF MEMORY CARD ELITE PRO. I read on a forum that mpc's would read any cf card even up to 8gb and beyond. But thinking back maybe it was only mpc 2500 and upwards. Can anyone tell me if they think mpc 1000 will recognize the full capacity of the card before I try my luck?

Whats up people,

I have a question I bought a Transcend 256 MB memory module 144 pin SODIMM CL3 sdram,
for my MPC 2500..

But when I click it in, it says: 128 mb installed SODIMM ERROR!!!!

and than it freezes..

Does anyone know what happened or what I did wrong?

Also as a disclaimer, "WE as users RECOMMEND but do not ENDORSE you to purchase these brands for we will not be responsible for any damages you or the product causes"

This is mainly for newbies who need serious advice!

I my self have installed:
HYNIX PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB - RAM

What you need to concentrate on is PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB.

I REPEAT FOR THOSE WHO ARE ILLITERATE
U NEED PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB (ANY BRAND!)

You ask why 256MB?

The Ram is 64x4. meaning it has 4 banks of memory that are 64MB's Each
The MPC1000's hardware structure only can read one side of the ram chip or two banks if I'm not mistaken, (someone hear can confirm the right reason) anyway.. it will only read half of the Ram so there fore if you use 128 only 64MB will show up on your MPC1000. This is why we use 256MB so that 128MB shows up. Now dont complain about 128MB cause thats the max the MPC1000 deals with. So dont buy 512MB!

Now why do we buy it? cause its cheaper to buy 3rd party Ram than Akai's ram. Akai charges 3 Times the amount for their ram which is still 3rd party ram made by 'Hynix' which is ironic to say the least in my situation, though I got mine out of a second hand laptop in a compuuter fair. So do the math. Pay $99 or £99 for 128MB of Akai ram when in some PC stores $99 or £99 can buy you 1gig or more of ram!! erm...I think not akai!! so why not buy a well known and trusted Brand Like Kingston and install that instead for $45 or about £30-£40 of 256MB.

See the sense now?

CF Card I use is Dan Elec 2GIG CF TYPE I Card. Purchased from http://www.expansys.com/

[MPC 1000 READS TYPE I & TYPE II]

To View Card Click Here Though it does look alot different when you get it.

More like this

EDIT 12th APRIL 2005
HERE IS A LIST OF WORKING CF CARDS

    CF : Kingston 512 Mb
    SanDisk 2GB CF
    Kingston 1gig CF card
Dan Elec 1GB CF CARD TYPE II

sparq wrote:read exactly what Penfold wrote on why.

ok listen. older mpcs take a single bus memory chip SIMM (single inline memory module) the mpc1000 was not built like that. for some reason akai made the 1k to take dual bus memory chip DIMM (dual inline memory module) but it only utilizes half of that. I think they did it like that because no one uses and barely manufactures SIMMs anymore so they had to use updated technology, DIMMs. also, when you have a computer that use SIMM mem chips you have to buy two so to get 128mb you have to buy two 64mb chips. you also have to think about this: the 1k is smaller than all other mpcs and they probably didn't have the room to fit 2 standard size mem chips (another reason why they went this route) the SODIMM memory is standard laptop memory and it fits somewhat on the outside of the machine (not directly on the motherboard).

so with all of that said. In order to take advantage of the capacity of 128mb that the mpc was built for, you have to get 256mb. it will not work with 512mb to get 256mb, like penfold said. so don't try.

So then why don't they just say buy a 256 memory instead of 128? :?:
hopefully this cleared up some things for you.

Just bought this noname memory from this Ebay link as suggested by someone on this tread earlier for my MPC1000 Black / JJ OS 4.99 :
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120457579614#ht_621wt_778
Image
But it failed after boot screen than showed "125MB" installed for few seconds only :(

http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/yy270/jazzroom/MPC1000/MPC_meory_02.jpg

than i am getting this ... message...
Image

Tried reinstalling this memory , restarting multiple times.. it only gets worse :(

Is this problem with the memory or my Balck MPC1000?

Shall i try to buy another memory upgrade... or it has no use.. something in MPC prevents it from work? I am desperate and sad - was sooo much lookin forward to have a beefed up MPC sampling time :(
What shall i do next?

thanks for any tips

 i almost followed the prior advice to the hilt. however, the cl3 cam latency 3 memory is average $40-(usd) i got my ram for $9.99 (usd) following the other specs that sticky gave. excluding the cl3 part ofcourse directron.com. works fine...lovin' it...now on to an inexpensive hard drive. wish i could bypass the akai hard drive kit also. :D

Blanco_Diablo_Magico wrote:This runs contrary to what another poster recommended but I tried Maplin's SODIMM 256Mb upgrade and it failed to work! The MPC runs Bootblock, gets about halfway through pass 1 then tells me it's failed and the problem was found in memory...I'm assuming it's just an incompatible bit of RAM...but how can I be certain the next third party memory I buy won't have the same problem?

did you finaly found the one that works?
