I still don't get how people can say their 5k doesn't work or they feel that it's a lemon and still have it.

If it doesn't work why was it not returned?
If it doesn't work why haven't you moved on to something else?

I just find these situations hard to understand on any level.

The problem I have with my 5k is the screen display fades from blue to all white with random restarts. The firmware is slow and sluggish. The controls has latency issue. Thank God for the hard drive, because saving to flash drive and loading data from the flash drive a later time, some how causes error.

Even with problems I like making music with the 5k. The 5k needs a lot of work to be as reliable as my 4k. It's a shame to see akai create new products, while avoiding firmware updates for the 5k.

Sovereign, when I upgraded my studio I bought a lot of gear and software. So, I learned everything a bit at a time. I had a 30 day return policy on my 5000. The first month I had it I barely scratched the surface cause I was learning my other synths and software. I didn't discover the bugs until my test period had run out. As buggy as mine is I believe an OS update would help considerably.

Take it easy man.

So the 4000 load times is faster than the 5000's? How does the 4000/5000 load times compare to the mv load times? Yo im looking at a used 5000 without the factory sounds. Where can i find the factory sounds? I couldn't find them on the Akai site.

Believe it or not folks, Akai (Numark) is putting all their future money into the midi controllers. They dont give a **** about how you feel, and that is sad. They cant even make their operating systems open source, which is even more sad. (And jesus knows why??!)

There wont be no 3.0, they will continue to sell 500,1000,2500 and 5000 as long as there are customers, but I highly doubt there will be a another MPC or MPC update ever. Hope im wrong!

The 5k loads faster than the 4k.
I'm not sure what freezes he's talking about, it not a problem I have seen.
Nothing loads as slow as a MV, not even other Roland products.

The 4k is missing some of the newer aspects that can make the 5k a better fit, but what I dislike about it is I still have never been able to use AkSys.
I have tried several computers, short transfers everything and still never got it to work with enough consisitency to be able to use it.

What I found to get me around it was to use a Flash Card reader on the front USB to transfer things back and forth.

All of you folks in here dissing the mpc sequencer are nuts. I can tell you why half of yall are having sucky timing and i doubt its a bad batch of mvs. One thin is a lot of heads sue the auto chop to chop drums on the mv, one thing people might not notice is when you use the auto chop there is a little space before that actual attack of the sample you need to manually slide the start point over to have it hit exactly on the drum attack. This is prolly why 99 percent of yall are complaining bout pad latency and bad timing, when in reality its bad sample chopping.

Madd heads on here be praising the mpcs sequencer talking bout it gives you a more human feel and is more groovy. In my honest opinion of having spent alot of time on the mpc 5000 and mv 8000 the mvs sequencer is much more groovy and less rigid than the mpc 5000. The mv gives you more of a human feel. Point case, check out madlibs beats, hes known for mostly using a roland sequencer, listen to how hist drums groove, and now its not due to always leaving the quantize off, the roland sequencers just feel that way. To me the the little sp sequencers have the same groove as the mv when quantized, but groove different when unquantized due to the 96ppqn of the roland sp line. I actually prefer having the 96 ppqn and hope they implement it on a future 5000 os as it makes it easier to get a tight groove without quantization. 96 ppqn is like a very light quantization.

But anyway the roland mv 8000s sequencer is great and feels better to me than the 5000, and the sound of it is soooooooo thick. I prefer kick drums from the mv ova the ones I can make in the 5000 especially since you get that nasty digital clipping when you go to low on the filters frequencies. But yea again MVs timing is great.

i prefer the sequencer of the MPC5000.....
i had the MV8000 for about 2 years...DIDN'T LIKE THE SEQUENCER!!!!!!
B4 that i had the MPC2000XL.
IMO the MV's sequencer sucked..... and it wasn't users error....
as i have great timing... i've played in orchestra's, big bands, small jazz groups...
rarely do i quantize... and i never quantize piano parts....
and being that i sample in Kontact & Battery that wasn't my problem with the MV.
the MPC makes a MUCH better sequencer IMHO... but to each his/her own.
this is not a diss on the MV.... but these MV HEADS have to realize that the MV isn't for everybody.. just like the MPC isn't.

I don't have a problem with pad latency or the Autochop. It's not bad chopping because it puts the chop slightly ahead. After all it's measuring peaks in the waveform. It's not actually listening to the sound. Sometimes it's flawless. Other times it needs some additional adjustment. Anyone expecting an autochop feature to do 100% of their work is just plain fuggin lazy and is more interested in the machines creation and not their own. I want to be clear that i'm not accusing anyone here.

Anyway, without talent and imagination they will all allow to make the same equally fuugged up garbage.

With the fact that most things have a 90-day warranty buying bulk gear to learn is never a good idea.
Glad I have no issues.
