just got a stock 4000 from the old homie, now i need to upgr

one of the old homies had purchased a white mpc 4000 from back in the day, used it four a couple of projects then put it in storage.

so i picked it up. only problem is that it was 60 gb hd, 256 ram, stock basically.


any advice or opions on how to go about totally upgrading the 4000 would be appreciated.


I think first things first is get the max HD, then ram.

There is no real need to upgrade the HD. 60GB is a massive amount of space. Also, with ak.Sys you can save to your computer. I would just hold off on the HD.

Try using the MPC with the 256MB for a while. You might find 256MB is enough memory for your needs.

You will have to determine what option boards you will use the most.

mpcstuff is too expensive!!!! Save some money and buy through VST or their ebay store. They have all 3 boards.

i haven't seen a place selling the worldclock for the mpc 4000

this 4k had os 1.40 on it , and i just got 1.71 on this rudeboy

gotta transfer the drum library now

then my friend has over 100 sample cds of all various formats




i love how the mpc 4000 can read all the old school sampler formats!!!

mpc 4000 doesn't use any of these

optional effects cards?

Actually, there's only one efx card installed in the 4k, the EB4JS multi effects board. It's configured into 4 effect processors (the same as the Z8, but optional on the Z4) that can be routed through the 4 input/output buses that are available.

To verify you have the effects card installed, hit global, then F3 (config), and you should see if it's installed or not.

There were some bad HD that were put out by IBM, but not all HDD put into the MPC were bad. Only a limited few. The only way to know if you have one of the "deathstar" HDD is to open the unit and look at the model #. Given that your MPC is quiet a few years old already i would say you have a good HDD.

Anyone got a link to the service manual?

One of the pads is double triggering so I might need new sensors
I'd like to get some new pads as well


Besides swapping out the sensors and getting new pads, there is nonother component that could be causing it to double trigger

the 4k has a habit of double triggering until you get used to it.....also by checking in the service manual you can open her up and get the pads of and clean underneath.the sensors!!just be carefull not to make anything worse which is always possible.cheers

the i use unace in osx to extract the file


it says the file is encrypted i try the pw Akai and it doesn't extract the service manual

What were some of the problems with the faulty HD's?

I'm getting fatal errors and read quite a few of the previous posts, but there doesnt seem to be a solution.
