Other Dude with a SCSI Problem PLEASE HELP!!

Please Tell me why my MPC 3000 Won't Pick up my 100mb Zip Drive???

1) I replaced My Zip Cord

2)I have my zip drive pluged and hook up BEFORE turn MY MPC on,and when to go to format the Drive it keeps showing there is No SCSI

3) I using the latest Operating System

did you format the zip? you need to do that before it will recognize it. weird I know, but true.

1: A new IOMEGA branded zip SCSI cable or a replacement generic type ?

2: Is your ZIP drive a true SCSI model ? Or a ZIP PLUS model.

Regarding 2 ...

The ZIP PLUS isn't always compatible with the MPC3000. A true SCSI model is needed to ensure compatibility with your MPC3000 SCSI port.

Another problem that can cause the ZIP drive not to show for formatting is that of incorrect termination. Make certain the termination switch is enabled is this ZIP drive is your only connected SCSI device.

If you're still having problems then there may be some blown fuse links on the SCSI control board within your MPC3000. If this is the case then you will need to take the machine to a tech centre for repair.

3: With regard of this problem it wouldn't matter which operating system you're using.

Have you tried connecting this ZIP drive of yours to another SCSI equipped device in an effort to see if it works ... or not as the case may be ?

my suggestions is connecting your mpc to an external harddrive, and your zip drive chained to that, i went through 4 zip drives thinkin i was using incompatible drives, but right when i tried chaining it from an external scsi HD it worked...

i even have an extra one ill sell for 15 bucks! +shipping

make sure the termination switch is set to on, make sure the numbers in the zip and the MPC are the same, format the disc and you should be golden.

Where is the Termination Switch??? On which Machine???

The MPc 3000 or the Zip Drive??

The TERMINATION switch is on your ZIP drive near the SCSI ID selector.

If it is not there then you may have a ZIP drive that is not going to work properly.

There's no termination Switch but it cuts on I just isn't recognize by the MPC 3000 Is there anyway to test to if everything is okay on the MPC side?? Are any other sugestions to trying to get this thing to work??

if there is no termination switch then it's a zip plus and will give you problems, get a propper scsi zip with term switch and SCSI ID switch.

Testing the MPC3000 SCSI side of things.

Easiest way to see if all things SCSI related that can be user tested are aaa-ok is ... obtain a drive that it the correct type.

EG:

SCSI ( NON-PLUS MODEL ) ZIP100 with ID Selector and TERMINATION SWITCH.

SCSI ZIP250 ( NON-PLUS MODEL ) with ID Selector and TERMINATION SWITCH.

A compatible fixed SCSI drive in an external case, correctly TERMINATED.

A compatible SCSI flash card reader, correctly TERMINATED.

A compatible SCSI CD-ROM reader, correctly TERMINATED.

A compatible SCSI-ATA bridge to ATA device, correctly configured.

Does your MPC3000 search the SCSI port on boot up ?

Have you extended the time out paramater for SCSI SEARCH ?

If you're still having problems an they're not user error related then your MPC3000 SCSI board may have a fault that needs diagnosing.
