Sync basslines as a track to MPC?

Ok, so for years I have just sampled/filtered my basslines (or took some of the attack off an 808 and stretched it out/note). I have avoided computer interfaces up until now. I am buying a Sony Vaio and FireWire Sound Card. (I have tried searching for the past few days, no luck), but I am looking to find a program that will allow me to add a bassline with a MIDI Keyboard into my sequence on the MPC and also allow me to record it as MIDI (or at least as audio).
I would like to be able to add the bassline to a track so as I play my full song I can use the track mute/solo and etc. when ready to record. I have been looking at purchasing a keyboard that has USB and one MIDI Out. I figured I could connect the keyboard via USB and control the sound I want with the keys and connect the MIDI Out on the keyboard to the MIDI In on my MPC and sync it up on then record it to a track with the sequence.

Will that type of keyboard and method work for this?
I can get Fruity Loops 9 from a friend, can this get the job done?
If not what program(s) would you recommend?

this is exactly what im planning on doin. i have the m-audio keystation 49, its nothing special, has one midi out a modulation knob a pitch bend and some other fun stuff. but nothing special. 49 keys is alot but you can do alot more with it if you want then just basslines. in terms of daw software i used fruity loops up until i got my mpc, it is very easy to use and has some good bass sounds in it, ive been using the three basses in the hip hop kit for a long time now but the way ive done it is by sampling the bass and the adjusting pitch on it or using the 16 levels function. theres gotta be a way to do what youre talking about so i will continue my research and update you if i find anything out

I just purchased a new midi controller. I went with an Axiom 25. Pretty solid, good keys compared to a lot of other controllers out there. It also has a midi in and midi out.

I purchased this also in a limited red edition. Sent it back because I got a SP-303 for about $125 (128 smart media card included) and couldn't afford both (this was quite some time ago)

Honestly I never really messed with a computer, I normally just used my friends sound card to record my stuff live as audio and all I did was play the song and do the effects/track mute.
Chopping basslines/filtering and taking some of the attack off an 808 kick/timestrech has worked for me but as I gain more experience and create more complex sequences limiting myself has taught me a lot of tricks but I kinda feel that it can limit my possibilities, and also the rare occasion the above methods cant get out whats in my head.
If theres a DAW that would at least let me record my beat as MIDI and add bass with the program or whatever that would work also I suppose, I guess it wouldnt really matter but I am just very comfortable with my MPC.
I'm actually applying for a grant that would allow me to get a MacBook Pro, Logic Pro and Apogee Duet...from research I think that would be overkill for what I was looking for haha..
