How long have you had your MPC?

I bought mine for $200 ( upgraded memory, no 8 outs, no eb16, a few lines in the screen but in great shape otherwise, a steal for real!) in St. Louis from craigslist like 5 months ago. I have been studying like crazy, just happy that I found this machine, I feel as though it was designed for me specifically.

I have had my MPC 3000 for 17 years bought it brand new directly from Akai, I actually have a prototype without the smpte card, I was the third person in the US to have the MPC 3000, that's no joke! Peace

It's pretty sad to admit, I've had a 2000XL for just over 2 years - I went gear mad when I first got techs, only recently I'm trying to appreciate the things I got hustlin' so hard so long ago, instead of taking more risks and getting in front of a judge for shit I don't need. trying to cut down on videogames and drinking to escape too. just yesterday (yes yesterday), I got back on the MPC and picked up where I'd left off, chapter 30 of the tutorial I bought from this very site - made an original beat, sampled some johnny mathis and now my mind is buzzing.

mpc 2000 - december 09

MPC2000XL... bought it ten years ago for $1200.

Almost 2 years MPC-2000XL off ebay, normal beige one with 8 outs, max ram and in-built zip that I put in, tried the EB-16 on it from my S-3200XL but didn't like it so stuck them back in the S series where it's more useful as you can use the 3200XL as an fx unit.

It looks a bit more beat up now than when I got it as it's been out with me a few times but still going strong

Bought my orange 2000xl SE back in 2006, then ended up selling it....BUT found another one for sale at guitar center in 2009... REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOOOD!

Damu is one of the best producers around. I'm listening to Overtime and I just came across your post. Ironic I suppose. I got my first MPC in 09, that was a MPC 1000. Prior to that I used a Roland SP-505 for a few years. I've always been a DJ but it wasn't until recently that I've started producing seriously. I just wish I could build on my concepts with greater speed.

8 years and counting! had an akai hiatus for a bit while in college so i guess 6 years. had to get some repairs here and there... forat kinda gipped me i think.

That has nothing to do with irony.

I got my XL in 2001-2002, and I'm still at it.

My Own mpc2000 august 1998, before that worked on a beat up mpc60 (from 95 to 97, got that same mpc60 in 2001 for free) and borowed an mpc2000 before I bought my own.
2004 I bought my 4000 and got a dead mpc3000 in 2003.
Had a MPC1000 for 3 months. That is the only mpc I sold

copped my xl last year in February comming from a roland sp joint... both get an equall amount of time still since the rolands my first sampler...

hm...how interesting most post here seem to mention the 2000xl. Especially notable were the users who started out with it or something else but eventually moved back to it. I wonder why? The feel? and ease of use?

JJOS seems real cool, but the OS on the XL is soo simple, could that be it as well?
